Forest Explorers Home Education Taster Session (Drop off)

📅 9 Sep 2026
📍 BD13 4EU · Bradford postcode area

Taster day for our Forest Explorers drop-off sessions — designed especially for children who are home-educated or flexi-schooled. These sessions are rooted in child-led Forest School principles, where each child’s curiosity guides their learning journey. Set in a safe, supportive outdoor environment, children are encouraged to explore, take appropriate risks, and develop confidence at their own pace. Throughout the day, children will build a wide range of practical and life skills. They can choose to work towards their Wild Passport, developing abilities such as shelter building, knot tying, fire safety and lighting, and safe tool use. Their progress is recorded in their own passport, creating a meaningful record of their achievements. A key part of our sessions is cooking and sharing food together. Children will learn how to prepare and cook meals over an open fire, exploring different techniques while gaining an understanding of food hygiene and safety. These shared experiences help nurture independence, cooperation, and a real sense of accomplishment. Beyond practical skills, Forest Explorers is about building friendships, resilience, and teamwork. Through group challenges and collaborative play, children learn to communicate, problem-solve, and support one another, strengthening both social skills and emotional wellbeing. There is also plenty of opportunity for nature connection and exploration — discovering local flora and fauna, observing seasonal changes, and learning how we interact with and care for the natural world. Creativity flows naturally in the woodland setting. Children can experiment with natural crafts, including willow weaving, natural dyes and paints, whittling, and creating personal nature journals to capture their experiences. Because sessions are child-led, each week may look different. Some days may focus on skill-building or crafting, while others may centre around socialising, imaginative play, or teamwork. This means children may not always bring home a finished item—but they will always leave with valuable experiences, growing confidence, and deeper connections. All sessions are led by fully qualified and experienced practitioners, including Level 3 Forest School Leaders, with training in Outdoor and Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, safeguarding, and specialist outdoor qualifications. With nearly 20 years of combined experience and small group sizes, we ensure every child is supported, safe, and able to thrive.
