Creativity has always been central to protest. It’s how injustices are exposed, how difficult ideas are expressed, and how people find common ground. Without it, protest is just noise. Clive Russell shares work from his own practice and influences to explore why protest sits at the heart of progress, and why uncertainty is often the fuel for meaningful creativity. Along the way, he’ll challenge ideas around branding, authorship, and the myth of genius. Clive is a graphic designer known for creating identities for cultural movements and causes. He is co-founder of This Ain’t Rock’n’Roll, a London-based studio whose clients include Tate, The National Gallery, Right to Repair, Humanity & Inclusion and Médecins Sans Frontières. His work has received multiple awards and is held in permanent collections including the V&A, the British Museum, MoMA and the Smithsonian. He is also part of Ocean Rebellion and a collaborator with the Museum of UnRest and the David Graeber Institute. ---------- This event is made possible thanks to our supporters: Cambridge Management Consulting - Indie Cambridge - Numbercloud - Studio 24 - Cambridge City Council ----- Interested in being a sponsor? Cambridgeshire IVC – In Very good Company

📅 28 Apr 2026
📍 CB3 0AJ

Join Ros for a lively discussion of Nita Prose's gripping whodunnit, which became the 2023 winner of the Goodreads Choice Award for best mystery/thriller. It begins like any other day for Molly Gray, silently dusting her way through the luxury rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel. But when she enters suite 401 and discovers an infamous guest dead in his bed, a very messy mystery begins to unfold. And Molly’s at the heart of it – because if anyone can uncover the secrets beneath the surface, the fingerprints amongst the filth, it's the maid... Lisa Jewell described The Maid as: "Smart, riveting, and delicously refreshing." We will meet in the Castle Inn on Castle Hill at 7pm in the hour before IVC Pub night - feel free to stay on for drinks afterwards! The Castle is a quaint traditional pub offering a full range of drinks, including real ales and pub food. Please bring along £1 (or £12 for the year) as a contribution to Meetup fees - this £1 is only payable by non-fully-paid members of IVC (and can be reclaimed if you decide to join the CambsIVC membership group). Parking is free in the Shire Hall car park from 7pm. Books to look forward to in the coming months: The Silver Pigs by Lindsey Davis Murder at the Fitzwilliam by Jim Eldridge Death and Croissants by Ian Moore A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters

Makespace (Cambridge, UK)

All agesFri
📅 24 Apr 2026
📍 CB2 1SB

(This event is for Makespace members and their guests) For this edition of the lino printing meet-up we'd like to try some new techniques together, starting with reduction printing. This method involves carving a simple design into a lino block and pulling prints, followed by further carving of the same block and overlaying a second print in a darker colour. This is a simple and effective way to start printing with multiple colours! See the pictures below or watch this video for a better idea: This informal gathering for all experience levels. Whether you’re completely new to printmaking or are already an expert, you’re welcome. The session will be guided by members with printmaking experience, but there is plenty of space to experiment, share tips, and learn from each other. Important: Please arrive on time so that we can run through a tutorial together, and to make sure there is time for ink to dry between rounds of printing. Just want to do normal linocut? You're welcome to come along to the meet-up and do your own thing! Just to note that less guidance may be available for newbies during this session. What to expect • Intro to basic lino cutting and printing • Shared tools • Materials available for purchase • Support from experienced Makespace members • Bring your own tools, inks, or paper if you have them • A relaxed, social atmosphere with space to work on your own ideas Please note: this session involves sharp lino cutting tools and printing inks. A safety briefing will be given and guidance will be available throughout. Come along, make some cool multicoloured prints, meet fellow creatives, and help grow a new printmaking community at Makespace. If you have questions beforehand, feel free to ask in the comments. See you there.

📍 CB1 1BG

Lexicon: Relevant Youtube video: Questions: 1\. What are the popular positions on justice in war? What do people commonly believe to be just or injust about how wars are started and how they are carried out by the adversaries? 2\. What are the moral prerequisites/premices required to decide on the justness of a war and how its carried out? 3\. Does the justness of a war impact what a particular party can do during it? 4\. What do you think should be the main principles of how combat is carried out? 5\. What judgement can you pass on current and passed conflicts? Come discuss this topic and whether you agree with Ayn Rand or not in a roundtable format with other interested people! We use Rand's writings as a starting point for the discussion but this group is for discussing philosophical issues more generally! Feel free to come present your or your favourite philosopher's ideas on the subject. Location: We will be meeting inside the Duke of Cambridge pub, at the back near the board game tables Format: Roundtable discussion, moderated to ensure everyone gets a shot at intervening on each point and to keep the discussion on topic. Feel free to message the group if you have any trouble finding us or ask the bartenders

This is a group for the vegetarians and vegans of Cambridge, anyone who wants to get out of the house and do something social. It doesn't just have to be foody outings, we can do cinema trips and country walks, whatever you lot want.Generally, listings will be events that someone wants to host and expects to be at, however sometimes we will list events purely because we think they're likely to be of interest to the community. In these cases the page can still be used for people to organise a meeting, but there won't be a host as such.We are sponsored by The Cookie Place, offering fantastic vegan cookies at the market stall every Tuesday, or delivery by arrangement
