Edinburgh Midweek Eat, Drink And Have Fun

Sat
📅 20 Jun 2026
📍 EH10 4PX

\Please note - This group does not give any priority to Meet-up Plus members. Everyone is treated equally and places on events are allocated strictly by rsvp time\ EAT, DRINK and have FUN Since its inception in February 2014, these three simple objectives have been the pillars at the core of our group. Typically our events are centred around a midweek restaurant booking in Edinburgh with an optional drink before and/or after the meal. Variations beyond this template arise from time to time according to our members' interests and suggestions such as events at the weekend and outwith Edinburgh. A £1 donation when you attend an event is suggested to help cover the cost of Meetup fees. Please read the following points, which contain important information on how the group runs - 1. Use a recognisable profile picture - this will facilitate a successful meet and greet by the organiser at each event. 2. Update your RSVP - Please update your RSVP asap if you find you are unable to attend an event at any time right up to the last minute. Also if your name is on the waitlist we expect that you are able to attend if a place becomes available so please remember to remove yourself from the waitlist if you would no longer attend if given a place. No-shows and cancellations on the day of the event may deprive other members of the chance to attend events. 3. Late Cancellations - If you find for whatever reason that you cannot attend on the day of the event you must contact the Event Organiser directly. (If in an emergency this is not possible, please do so as soon as you can.) You can contact the Event Organiser privately via the direct messaging facility on the App or in the comments section for the event (visible to all attendees). If you fail to contact the event organiser or just don't turn up you will be marked as a "no show". If you have three 'no shows' you will be removed from the group. 4. Have your notifications switched on - this will help keep you informed about new events, important messages from the organisers and keep you updated if you have been given a place after being on a waitlist. Saying you didn't know you had a place or didn't receive a notification is not a valid reason for a no show or late cancellation. 5. Arrive on time and let the organiser know if you are running late. 6. Help the event organisers in whatever way you can - they dedicate a lot of time and energy to the smooth running of each event - without them, the Group would not exist.

Edinburgh Hypnosis and Magnetism Explorers Group

Thu
📅 4 Jun 2026
📍 EH12 5BA

Edinburgh Hypnosis and Magnetism Explorers Group This group is a space for curious minds to explore the art, practice, and experience of hypnosis, trancework, and magnetism. Lead by James Tripp (20 + years hypnotherapist and hypnosis trainer, 30+ yeas Qigong) and Rowan Ramsay (practitioner and teacher of hypnosis and magnetism and more!), we explore the intersection of: Hypnosis and self-hypnosis Trance as a lived, experiential process Classical mesmerism and animal magnetism Suggestion-based and “vitalist” approaches to the work Rather than treating hypnosis as something purely theoretical or scripted, this group is grounded in direct experience. Each session will involve participatory exercises, allowing you to explore trance, attention, influence, and internal change from the inside out. Sometimes we’ll lean into the suggestionist tradition—language, imagery, and psychological processes. Other times we’ll explore the magnetist perspective—felt sense, relational presence, and subtle energetic dynamics. What to Expect: Guided experiential exercises Partner and group explorations Practical skill-building in hypnosis and self-hypnosis Exploration of trance as both a personal and relational phenomenon A spirit of curiosity, experimentation, and discovery Who This Is For: This group is open to anyone who is interested in exploring hypnosis and trancework, whether you are: A complete beginner A coach, therapist, or practitioner Someone curious about altered states and inner experience Interested in the historical and experiential roots of mesmerism and magnetism No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to participate. The Spirit of the Group: This is not about rigid techniques or “getting it right.” It’s about exploration, sensitivity, and developing skill through experience. If you’re interested in discovering what hypnosis and magnetism feel like—not just what they look like—this group is for you.

📍 EH2 2HT

Join James Tripp and Rowan Ramsay for an in-person exploration into the felt experience and practical application of what are often referred to as “healing energies.” This session sits right at the heart of what the Edinburgh Hypnosis and Magnetism Explorers Group is about: not just talking about these phenomena, but engaging with them directly. Across cultures and traditions, concepts such as Chi, Qi, and Animal Magnetism have been used to describe subtle, often hard-to-define aspects of human experience—particularly in relation to healing, influence, and connection. In this event, we’ll approach these ideas not as beliefs to adopt, but as experiences to explore. What We’ll Be Doing Guided exercises to explore “energetic” phenomena through direct experience Exercises focused on sensitivity, attention, and interaction Experiments drawn from both mesmerist and qigong traditions Opportunities to notice and develop your own felt sense of these processes Rather than asking “Is this real?”, we’ll be asking: “What happens when we engage with this in a structured, attentive way?” What This Is (and Isn’t) This is not a lecture or a demonstration-only event. It’s a participatory, exploratory session where your own experience is central. We’ll be working at the intersection of: Vitalist perspectives (energy, flow, felt sense) Suggestion-based approaches (attention, expectation, responsiveness) You’re invited to explore both, without needing to commit to any particular metaphysical explanation. Who It’s For Curious beginners Practitioners of hypnosis, coaching, or therapy Those interested in mesmerism, energy work, or embodied experience Anyone willing to explore with openness and attention No prior experience is required. Filming Notice Portions of this event will be filmed. You are very welcome to attend if you prefer not to be on camera—however, you will need to take responsibility for keeping your

WHEN & WHERE 18:15 | Wednesday | 29 April Codebase | 37 Castle Terrace | Edinburgh | EH1 2EL ABOUT THE SESSION For our next in-person People Peeps session, Simon Wallis will facilitate an engaging workshop designed specifically for anybody curious about how organisations can evolve beyond the traditional hierarchy. The session will think about things from the perspective of a 'people practitioner' looking to help organisations. In it we will: Reflect on our experiences of working in and supporting traditionally hierarchical organisations, Explore the "Teal" cultural paradigm and how it is different from traditional hierarchical organisations, Use practical, interactive exercises to bring two of Teal’s most powerful processes—the Advice Process and Granular Roles—to life. If you’re curious about fresh ways to strengthen autonomy, clarity and human‑centred design in your organisation, this session will offer both inspiration and real‑world tools you can apply immediately. Expect thought‑provoking and immersive group discussions plus take‑aways that challenge conventional assumptions about how people, decisions and structures can work. Come ready to experiment, reflect, and rethink what’s possible for the future of work in your own context. ABOUT OUR FACILITATOR Simon Wallis is Head of People and Business Operations for an Edinburgh-based data consultancy (Newtyne), with a core background in L&D, coaching and mentoring. The bulk of his career has been in the transport sector where traditional, hierarchical organisations abound. Simon is actively exploring the benefits of so-called "next stage" (Teal) organisations through his voluntary work in the third sector. A THANK YOU A big thanks to Techscaler and Codebase who are supporting this group! All subject to change :)

Tonight we’ll be hearing from: Cristian Bourceanu on "Aetherus: Monte-Carlo radiative transfer with photon history tracking of interactions for materials and surfaces". From Cristian: "Monte-Carlo simulations are ubiquous in producing simulated results for problems that are challenging to solve numerically or analytically, but they can be described in terms of statistics. Aetherus is the first known multispectral time-resolved Monte-Carlo simulation, making extensive use of the Rust ecosystem: serde, rayon, nalegbra with SIMD speed-up. The big challenge is to analyse the results, for which we have added a novel events tracking method, using an encoding inspired from RISC-V 32-bit instruction encoding. This enables to group signals together based on various criteria and understand the effects underlying the detected photons histogram. A Domain Specific Language (DSL) was developed with chumsky to faciliate filtering based on an intuitive script." "I am a PhD student at University of Edinburgh, investigating Multispectral LIDAR. Previously worked as a RISC-V CPU design engineer at Codasip and a firmware engineer at Hypervolt. Now trying to bring some of this knowledge together." Fallible Things on "Bevy in Anger (and other stages of grief)". Fallible has been working on a digital card game for 2 years, having migrated her client-side code base to Bevy after prototyping with Godot for 6 months. Bevy is the Game Engine darling of the Rust community, and has been subject to both much love and hate over its half-decade of development. What's it like trusting and using this technology over time? What will it look like in the future? Has sticking with it been worth it? Stork’s Beak: School of Historical Swordplay

18+Sun
📅 26 Apr 2026
📍 EH8 9BZ

The smallsword is a lightweight, one-handed thrusting weapon that rose to prominence in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed primarily for civilian use, it evolved as a duelling weapon and as a symbol of status, replacing the heavier rapier as fencing styles shifted toward speed and precision over power and reach. The smallsword represents the refinement of European swordplay, embodying both martial utility and the elegance of its time. Its influence can still be seen in modern sport fencing, particularly in the foil, which evolved directly from smallsword practice. The rapier, championed by masters such as Niccolò Giganti in the early 17th century, laid the foundation for this transition. Where Giganti’s rapier taught reach, control, and thrusting dominance, the smallsword represents the refinement of European swordplay, embodying both martial utility and the elegance of its time. We are hosting a 4-week introductory course on the use of the smallsword & rapier. This course is an ideal introduction to HEMA and Historical fencing. Focusing on the works of Domenico Angelo from the late 18th century, the system taught is both elegant and effective. The course runs in the main hall of the Southside community centre on Sundays from 2:30-4 pm. The cost for the course is either £50 for the entire four-week course or £15 per session
