The Hackney Jam

Sat
📅 Every saturday
📍 E1 1LN

Calling all aspiring or live music performers looking to jam with other musicians and singers to improve those musical skills! Details on how the jam runs are provided on each of the event pages. Most are generic songs, and occasionally we'll throw in a themed jam to mix it up. It's a mixed group of all abilities, and designed to accommodate all. Those that are able to play by ear, show up and play. Those that need chord structures and keys will use the jam sheet to find those resources. On the day, the songs are played one time through, or twice if anyone also wants to play or sing on the same song, but the challenge is to play it slightly differently. There's no rehearsing on the stage, with each song taking 5-10mins max before rotation. So each song should be learnt or known before showing up to jam them out. All that being said, it's a pretty relaxed and supportive group that encourages 'winging it' and challenging ourselves on various instruments and styles.

Practice Jazz Jams (Novice)

Sat
📅 Every saturday
📍 SE17 1EP

This group is open to musicians of all levels who would like to learn and explore jazz standards & improvisation with others in a friendly & supportive environment The "novice setlist" sessions are especially suited for those getting started with jazz, looking to build up a repertoire of standards and learning to improvise with other musicians in a relaxed environment. Each session is individual and there is no longer term commitment. If you're already comfortable with the above, but are looking to improve the more nuanced aspects of your playing and over more challenging standards - then please come join one of the upcoming "Afternoon Open Jams", and discuss joining sessions at the sister group, "Practice Jazz Jams (Intermediate)". If you're new to the group and had some questions on how it all works just drop me (Xie) a message! A contribution is charged to cover payment of the room hire, meetup's monthly organiser fee, and my time in organising the sessions.

A friendly, relaxed singalong with guitarists (or other musicians) in a private room upstairs in a pub The format is fairly laid back, we encourage folk who come along to share a song with the group via the laptop onto the projector or our whiteboard and we'll attempt to play and sing our way through it as a group. We don't have a fixed song list as it tends to change depending on who comes along week to week, and the ability of the people attending. Please bring a capo if you have one. If you fancy getting out and playing with others, come along. It's a good way to work up the courage towards going to an open mic and a great way to get over that difficult bump of practicing alone in the bedroom to sharing your talent with the world. None of us are teachers so this is not a substitute for taking lessons (we'd only teach you bad habits), if you're more of a beginner you may want to consider these guys - We're mostly guitarists but we're open to other musicians coming along - just as long as it's not too loud and portable (bagpipes or church organs might be a bit tricky!) Our events are very often oversubscribed, and a waitlist system operates. If you do end up being on the waitlist, please don't come along on the off chance that you'll get a space - you won't.  The pub still operates while we are there and we keep numbers to those advertised to respect the wishes of the pub, so as not to affect their patrons.  Anyone drawn here by the word 'jam' who is a big fan of fruit based preserves to put on your toast, sorry, but I'm sure there's a meetup out there for you somewhere

Please join me to see French pop-rock band Saults for one night only In London! Ok it's not jazz but expect epic guitar playing and music supercharged with rock energy, a blend of sharp-edged songwriting, electric fire, melodic elegance, rich vocal harmonies and undeniable instrumental fluidity fuelled by their British influences. The brothers Antione and Craig left France at the end of 2017 to move to London. Newcomers, but determined, they played gig after gig in bars, clubs and basement venues... Then in 2024, the band released VOST FR, featuring Only Place to Hide — a song written in memory of a lost friend — which sent the group skyrocketing: over 3 million fully organic streams and nationwide recognition. VOST FR also marked the start of a smooth shift toward French-language expression. In 2025, Let It Go sparked a digital tidal wave: 50 million views, a viral guitar solo, and a sold-out show at La Boule Noire a month in advance. Tickets: standing £23.75 Where? Oslo, 1a Amhurst Road, Hackney, London, E8 1LL When? Wednesday 15th April 2026 | Doors open at 19:00. Expected finish time: 23:00. I'll be at the venue at 19:00.

I am proud to announce that we having our jam at the Temple Of Art & Music in Elephant & Castle!! 20 Second Chain: A structured improvisation format where a musical “chain” unfolds organically, with each player responding to and building on what came before. Lineup (on stage together): 2 guitarists 1 bass 1 drummer 1–2 singers 1 additional instrument (sax, trumpet, percussion, etc.) How It Works: All musicians on stage are assigned a number, which determines the playing order. Playing order, a key (and available chords) is written on a whiteboard opposite the stage. Number 1 begins alone with a simple idea for 20 seconds — leave space for others to build. Every 20 seconds, the next numbered musician joins one at a time, layering something that complements what’s already happening. Once everyone has entered and the full band is playing, the group improvises for 5 minutes, developing the groove — complexity and solos can grow naturally. No on-stage planning — listen and respond in real time. After the timer ends, the group rotates and a new chain begins. The Temple Of Art and Music is a live music venue and bar in Elephant & Castle so I encourage anyone attending to bring friends as it will be great fun for them even if they are not playing. The venue has a PA system, drum kit, mics and guitar/bass amps. There is no guarantee that there will be cymbals or drum accessories with the drum kit at the venue. Drummers please being your own if you can. Like all our other jams it will be a chance to jam with other musicians playing the music that you love in a gentle environment with no judgement and no pressure. This jam also uniquely gives the opportunity to play in front of a crowd! Tickets are £10 online message us let us know what instrument you play and we will confirm if there is space and send you the Eventbrite link for the jam. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information about this jam and London Jam

Come and play Chamber Music at my house on Saturday May 2nd; Time as suits between 2:15pm and 9:30pm Please include instruments and expected times in your response, and follow the below requested precautions when coming: Attendance requirements: Please do not come if you are unwell or if you know you were recently exposed to people with Covid or flu. Suggested standard is AB grade7 or NVQ level5 to professional, but in the end the ability to play with others is more important than instrumental technique I provide the following: Up to six playing spaces for groups of up to 12, 8, 6, 6, 6 and 3, respectively. One of the six-person playing-rooms has a carefully-chosen Steinway model B. Other rooms provide a Clavinova CLP575, a Clavinova 625, and an A415 harpsichord (all in different rooms). I have violins, violas, cello and a friend's 3/4 double bass available to play for multi-instrumentalists who do not wish to carry too much (please check before coming). There is a decent library of chamber music mostly for strings and for strings and piano, but some for mixed grooups and wind quintet; in practice at least one wind player usually comes equipped with appropriate music (I will provide warning to winds should this ever not be the case). As this is my private home, details of the location will be emailed by early Sunday to those who have already signed up. Please confirm instruments, chosen timing and the attendance requirements You will see that available playing times are very long - and I can extend until 10:30pm if appropriate. The intention is to allow us to space out and to minimise infection risks - as well as to give multiple pianists access. Please bring a music stand (let me know if this is difficult or impractical, as I can provide a limited number). There will be beverages and biscuits. I have revised the anonymous contribution arrangement - it is now a rectangular tin on the high side in the kitchen. Please give if you can - we sometimes have insur

Songwriters of the world, let’s... Get together, perform our songs & collaborate on-line and in person at open mics in and around London & wherever you live   Get better by doing it - get a feel for how good your song & performance is from how it goes down   Get writing - write a new song for next month’s show, or bring a half finished idea to get feedback and direction if it's not writing itself   Get collaborating - they say good songs are written but great songs are co-written. Get co-writing with us, your community. Our community is now forging new & surprising partnerships - it's the best fun you can imagine to collaborate people with you'd never come across in your day-day life. Get connected. Get your name on our collaboration register & you'll see 🍀   Get your name down – check the next virtual sessions and lookout for the next face-face session. Even if you aren’t playing, get your name down anyway - come and support your community, check out the talent, give feedback, have a chat Get a song on Soundcloud, Spotify, Youtube, Facebook etc, put a link to it on our showcase register and we’ll feature it on a dedicated public play list - like this Don't get why we're called 'Songwriters Unplugged Night'? The original idea was to get 15 songwriters together in the function room of a London pub and play our songs to each other in the round once a month. We're working our way up to that with regular online sessions, piggy-backing on existing open mics, and we'll have our own evening in a lovely London pub before your new album is released, so we're keeping the SUN name & we'll grow into it PS this isn’t a commercial venture, just self-help & making our own entertainment - so come on... Get involved - join the world's most passionate songwriters here at SUN. Do it today!
