The Hackney Jam

Sat
📅 Every saturday
📍 E1 1LN

Calling all aspiring or live music performers looking to jam with other musicians and singers to improve those musical skills! Details on how the jam runs are provided on each of the event pages. Most are generic songs, and occasionally we'll throw in a themed jam to mix it up. It's a mixed group of all abilities, and designed to accommodate all. Those that are able to play by ear, show up and play. Those that need chord structures and keys will use the jam sheet to find those resources. On the day, the songs are played one time through, or twice if anyone also wants to play or sing on the same song, but the challenge is to play it slightly differently. There's no rehearsing on the stage, with each song taking 5-10mins max before rotation. So each song should be learnt or known before showing up to jam them out. All that being said, it's a pretty relaxed and supportive group that encourages 'winging it' and challenging ourselves on various instruments and styles.

Ceri James isdescribed as the king of playful anthemic Americana infused music (no I don’t know what that is either).singalong choruses abound and though he has a band,’ the red flames’ , today he’s on his own. There are floor spots so if you fancy a warble you’re very welcome. The gig is free but with a hat going round…the suggested amount is a fiver. The venue is a tiny micro pub which has won awards from CAMRA. As well as booze there is excellent coffee. No sandwiches but the proprietor is quite happy for punters to take their own in.

Songwriters of the world, let’s... Get together, perform our songs & collaborate on-line and in person at open mics in and around London & wherever you live   Get better by doing it - get a feel for how good your song & performance is from how it goes down   Get writing - write a new song for next month’s show, or bring a half finished idea to get feedback and direction if it's not writing itself   Get collaborating - they say good songs are written but great songs are co-written. Get co-writing with us, your community. Our community is now forging new & surprising partnerships - it's the best fun you can imagine to collaborate people with you'd never come across in your day-day life. Get connected. Get your name on our collaboration register & you'll see 🍀   Get your name down – check the next virtual sessions and lookout for the next face-face session. Even if you aren’t playing, get your name down anyway - come and support your community, check out the talent, give feedback, have a chat Get a song on Soundcloud, Spotify, Youtube, Facebook etc, put a link to it on our showcase register and we’ll feature it on a dedicated public play list - like this Don't get why we're called 'Songwriters Unplugged Night'? The original idea was to get 15 songwriters together in the function room of a London pub and play our songs to each other in the round once a month. We're working our way up to that with regular online sessions, piggy-backing on existing open mics, and we'll have our own evening in a lovely London pub before your new album is released, so we're keeping the SUN name & we'll grow into it PS this isn’t a commercial venture, just self-help & making our own entertainment - so come on... Get involved - join the world's most passionate songwriters here at SUN. Do it today!

London Loves Jazz

Sun
📅 30 Aug 2026
📍 TW9 4HJ · Twickenham postcode area

London Jazz Meetup (LJM) is an open forum for jazz lovers, musicians and artists, jazz venues and promoters to share their love of jazz and live music in all its varied forms. Please note there is a one-off £5 contribution when you join the group. Membership to LJM is free thereafter. As a member of LJM, you can start going to amazing gigs with likeminded people and find out about the wide range of jazz on offer across London, from young bands starting their career to iconic jazz musicians passing through town, including a well of London based artists dedicated to playing great music. LJM also plays a part in supporting jazz artists in London. If you are a jazz musician, artist, promoter or venue, you are welcome to list your gigs on the LJM calendar.     Listing gigs on LJM is free, it gives your event great visibility to a large group of jazz lovers. In return we ask that you arrange for a clearly signposted reserved space for LJM members who attend your gig. This is to ensure that LJM members can gather and socialise together. Please ask me for more details about how to list and host your event on LJM.   So introduce yourself and share why you joined. And if you see a gig that you’d like to go to and it is not on the calendar, you can post a message on LJM to see who’s interested in going. If there are a few, you can become an event host for the night.   By becoming a member you confirm that you have read, understood and agree with LJM our group rules below.   LJM GROUP RULES LJM is an inclusive group, we expect our members to feel safe when they attend events. Please be respectful and considerate.   When you sign to an event, it is your responsibility to purchase your own ticket for the performance, your own travel and pub expenses. Please only RSVP that you are attending an event, once you have bought a ticket for the performance. It is your responsibility to find and arrive at the meeting place on time if you want to enjoy the gig with other LJM members. If you are late, please notify the event host. However it is up to the event host how long the group can wait for you.   Event hosts do not charge for organising and hosting events, they volunteer their time and energy to make everyone feel welcome. Please make it your responsibility too. Please amend your RSVP to “not attending” if for any last minute reason you are unable to attend the event. It is important for the event host to have an accurate number of people attending the event, so they don’t have to wait unnecessarily.   Please contribute to our forum in any way you can, by sharing your ideas or making suggestions. Why not even organise an event once in a while? You have a choice to become a one-off or a regular 'event host'.   DISCLAIMER LJM events are free and community-driven.  LJM members are a group of friends, not a business. LJM calendar offers different types of activities. Any LJM member may organize an event and you can too!   LJM is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any event details, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions to enable members to get together and have a great time. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "event leader". Each LJM member is expected to arrange their own travel to and from the gig venue. Each LJM member is responsible for their own safety and attendance, for meeting the group at the meeting location specified by the event host and at the time specified. Even hosts will not assume responsibility for anyone arriving late, getting lost, any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen.
