Philosophy by the river

Sun
📅 Every sunday
📍 CB2 1RX

If you're new to the area or are looking to expand your social circle with like minded people who enjoy thinking about life a little more deeply, then this is the group for you. Each week we choose a topic based on philosophy, psychology or sociology, to informally discuss and debate in a central Cambridge location (in summer by the river, and in winter in a coffee shop or pub). During the summer, the topic and venue are announced on Tues or Weds, once we have an idea of Sunday's weather forecast. Example areas we discuss include: How we construct our identity, consumerism, time, what is right or wrong, how to lead a good life, how society forces us to conform and 'fit in' We're always looking for interesting subjects to discuss, so do make suggestions. You don't have to lead the discussion but you're welcome to if you'd like.

Cambridge Thirsties is a friendly, social group for people who want to get out, meet others, and make genuine connections.   The group is entirely driven by its members. Our aim is simple: to run the kinds of events you want to attend. Suggestions for new events are always welcome—variety is the lifeblood of the group, and the goal is to socialise and make friends.   We run a wide range of activities, including: Walks and cycle rides Drinks, pub crawls, and pub quizzes Dances (including ceilidhs), live music, and festivals Restaurants, bowling, comedy, and more   If something sounds fun, sign up! And please remember: if your plans change and you can’t attend, cancel your RSVP so hosts can plan accurately and those on the waitlist can attend.   All events are hosted by members of the community who generously volunteer their time and energy—please join us in thanking them. If you’d like to host an event yourself or have an idea for something new, we’d love to hear from you.   Group costs: Meetup charges organisers $299 per year. While participation is free, a voluntary £3 annual donation (or more, if you wish) helps keep the group running. This is completely optional and very much appreciated.   Here’s to good company and great times ahead!   — Paul

Cambridge LGBTQ+ Group

Sat
📅 15 Aug 2026
📍 CB2 1RB

This is a community group intended to provide a space for LGBTQ+ people in or around Cambridgeshire to find or organise events for socialising in a relaxed and safe environment. Making connections with others in the community is something many of us find essential for our mental health and wellbeing, as well as simply having a lot of fun together, so we are truly thankful for those who volunteer their time to organise the events and groups on this page. If you have any suggestions or would like to use this Meetup group for an event that you’re planning, please message us on Meetup or email . The events on this page are centred around Cambridge, UK, although many are currently taking place online. To ensure the safety of group members, we aim to keep membership to those who have a connection to Cambridgeshire - this can be if you live, work, often visit, or have friends or family in the area. We welcome members from across the LGBTQ+ spectrum and believe that everyone has the right to feel safe and comfortable here, so we ask that all members please respect one another in all aspects of identity, including but not limited to:  Sexuality  Gender Identity  Pronouns  Race and Ethnicity  Religion and faith  Ability status  Age Members who do not abide by this request may be removed from the group.   Some of the events on this page are aimed at specific sub-sections of the LGBTQ+ community. We want to maintain these as safe spaces for the intended groups, while remaining inclusive and welcoming. If you join an event and your profile information conflicts with the parameters of the group, one of the organisers may send you a private message to check that the group is right for you. If your request to join a group or event is denied and you wish to discuss this, please message one of the administrators. This group is primarily intended for making friends and building community. Please keep it Safe For Work - it is not a dating or hookup site. Please be respectful in your use of the private messaging function. If you receive a message that makes you uncomfortable, please let us know. A note regarding profile information: the “say a bit about yourself” and “what do you hope to get from this Meetup” sections will continue to display the information you entered for the first group you joined. Please bear this in mind, as it means that if you introduce yourself as an LGBTQ+ person when joining this group, this information will be visible to any Meetup group you join in the future, unless you go into your profile and change it.
