Heading out from The Cunning Man, we’ll kick things off with a sociable circular walk through some truly beautiful riverside scenery. This is a great chance to meet like-minded people, have a chat, and enjoy being outdoors. The route takes us through a stunning long linear park, with a lovely mix of open green space, trees, and peaceful water views. Expect fresh air, easy-going conversation, and a friendly group vibe throughout. We’ll then loop back along the River Kennet, following tranquil waterside paths before returning to the pub, where we can unwind together with a well-earned drink. Miles: 5 miles (circular) Meeting Point The Cunning Man Time: 12:00 midday The organiser will meet everyone outside the pub before we head off. Parking The pub is happy for us to use their car park as long as you’re planning to return for a drink afterwards 😊 Just make sure you check your number plate in on the tablet at the bar when you arrive. There’s no set finish time, but the walk itself should take around 2–2.5 hours, with plenty of time to relax and socialise at the pub afterwards. Wear: Layered clothing Comfortable walking shoes/boots Things to Bring:** Water (at least 1 litre) Snacks/munchies Hat Suncream if it’s sunny

Great Outdoors

📅 20 Jun 2026
📍 SW1W 8QX

Great Outdoors has been one of the best UK based hiking group for over 10 years. If you want to get out shake off the cobwebs and get some miles in exploring some of the UK’s best countryside, national parks and coastal paths, you’re in the right place. In this group we pride ourselves on our friendliness too, we care what your name is and you can expect to  leave having met a group of lovely people and with quite likely some lasting friendships We look after all the logistics on each of our hikes so you can just turn up for a fun day out. The emphasis is on good times and a social group. We are open to anyone regardless of colour, nationality, gender, orientation, and age. Though many of our members are 30- 50 ish, some are younger and some are older. Everyone is welcome here. You can expect people in this group to care what your name is, and we nearly always stop for a drink or a meal at the end of each day, as that's the natural place to mark the end of the hike, and carry on the conversations you were having on route. Please don’t be afraid to come to your first meet up on your own! Most people coming to meet ups do come on there own! That is how we roll, we meet up, and hang out with other friendly human beings and we enjoy life and spend time together, you do not actually have to know each other to do this, but many friendships are born this way. Come along and I promise you’ll love it, and after that you'll have met our friendly lot so you won't be on your own next time!

Achilles International are an amazing organisation who link guide with blind and particially sighted runners, and they are looking for potential guides for future training sessions. Goodgym (and parkrun) communities have been very supportive of this team over the years, so we are looking to see if we can introduce more runners to the world of guiding. Paddington Rec Track Running From this Thursday through to Spring, Achilles International will be hosting their weekly VI running group session at Paddington Rec Track, an open access 400m track, 5 minutes walk from Maida Vale Station. On alternate weeks, we will train at either Emirates Stadium (Arsenal Tube) or Paddington Rec Track (Maida Vale Tube). How do I get involved? We are looking for volunteers to come and help our runners from Maida Vale station, over to our meeting spot near Paddington Rec Track, and back again afterwards. TFL staff are on hand to assist with the runners journey to and from Maida Vale. We are looking for guides to navigate the runners during the session (paces and distances will be discussed beforehand), and to look out for obstacles and hazards during the run. Open to runners of all guiding experience If you are not confident with guiding a runner at first, you are welcome to run with a guiding couple to watch their techniques and how it is done. What do I do now If you are interested, sign up here. We will contact you on Wednesday, and link you to the Achilles International WhatsApp group to discuss our plans for Thursday evening. Introduce yourself, and let us know your guiding experience, and we will work together to create an awesome group!

Barefoot Walking Adventures

Sat
📅 6 Jun 2026
📍 SE1 0DH

Hi everyone, Thank you so much for landing here! We are Barefoot Walking Adventures Our mission is to slow things down, and reconnect with the ground beneath us together. This all began really simply: I like to walk barefoot. Not all the time, only when it feels right. Sometimes it’s in the park, sometimes it’s just down the street, sometimes it’s a spontaneous moment when I kick off my shoes and feel the ground. And every time I do, I feel lighter, calmer… more present. There’s something about it, that direct connection with the earth that reminds me to slow down, breathe, and be in the moment. And I realized I couldn’t be the only one who feels that way! That’s where the idea for this group came from: to create a space where we can walk barefoot together, just a little escape from the busy world. Antoine

I visited the Swannery last year and was so captivated that I knew I had to organise this trip for the group – something fresh and truly special, even for those of you who have been on many trips before. Nestled in a picturesque setting alongside Fleet Lagoon on the stunning Jurassic Coast, Abbotsbury Swannery is widely regarded as one of Dorset's most unforgettable wildlife experiences. April is a magical time to visit: the swannery is at the height of its nesting season, with hundreds of Mute Swans incubating their eggs. You will have the rare privilege of walking among them and their nests remarkably close – an experience that never fails to leave a lasting impression! The daily mass swan feeding takes place at noon and you're very welcome to take part and feed the swans yourself. With up to 600 Mute Swans jostling and flapping for their share, it is an unforgettable spectacle. The swannery has a rich and fascinating history, having been founded over 600 years ago by Benedictine monks who originally bred the swans for food. Today the swans are fully protected. Film enthusiasts may also recognise the site from its appearance in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. After visiting the swannery, we'll head to the popular seaside resort town of Weymouth for lunch. I was planning to do this on 18th April, but our favourite (and only) pub with the yummy £9.99 pizzas is fully booked that day. So I have moved it to the 25th, when the bluebells will hopefully still be there, in addition to the other attractions in this lovely wood. For those of you who perceive Abbey Wood as being a long way away, its only in zone 4, its 15 minutes & 4 stations from Whitechapel on the Elizabeth Line, covered on all free passes, and around two quid if you are a paying passenger. Situated in South East London, Lesnes Abbey Wood offers 88 hectares of ancient woodland, a park and a ruined abbey (grade two listed). There is also the Arboretum, where we can take a walk through a collection of trees from around the world, plus other attractions too. I am putting this event up nice and early because I have to book tables at The Abbey Arms. So put your name down if you are definitely coming, but please do message me should you not be eating. I will be giving the pub numbers next Wednesday (15th April). So if you are one of the several who don't make up their mind until the eleventh hour, I may be able to get you in on the day but no guarantees. We're meeting at the front of Abbey Wood station, slightly later than usual at 11.15am. I expect to be at the pub between 3.30 and 4pm. If you haven't already paid for April, I ask for a nominal contribution of £2 to help cover Meetup organiser fees. No shrapnel please. Let's go to the sea and visit the beautiful town of Hastings, its country park, where I will show you some little known stunning views of the sea and the last remaining rain forest of England! And some pretty traditional villages. And the top of the cake will be that there is also a freaking bluebell forest, another one covered in wild garlic and some views that you will not believe! You will have yellow with the gorse bushes on the cliff top, a purple carpet in the forest and a white carpet in another wooded area! How incredible is that?! Hikers are always pleasantly surprised with this trip, so even if you are wondering if it is worth it, believe me, it really is worth it! What else can you ask for? Wild flowers, stunning seaside and cliff top and historical town... oh yes! Food, well, there will be plenty of choice if you fancy a bite or a drink , ... or both after the hike, unless you prefer to get back home of course! We found a lovely, quirky old pub in the village where we finish so we can have something there afterwards... The town gives its name to the Battle of Hastings, which took place 8 mi (13 km) to the north-west at Senlac Hill in 1066. It later became one of the medieval Cinque Ports. In the 19th century, it was a popular seaside resort, as the railway allowed tourists and visitors to reach the town. Today, Hastings is a fishing port with the UK's largest beach-based fishing fleet. We will walk the cliff top, beaches and country park, have a trip along a magnificent coastline, in the woods with some views... There will be a few inclines during the first part of the hike, nothing too demanding, and the second part will be easier. After a break at the clifftop cafe we will carry on towards the bluebell forest, it should be at its peak so let's hope for some prettiness! As always on my trails, you will have some stunning sceneries and a lovely day out with some funny people at a relaxing pace. No rushing, just the enjoyment of the day surrounded by
