Engineering Minds aims to raise the standards of afterschool science provision in order to support primary school children to develop a strong interest for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design, Maths) . To achieve this we create a curriculum that allows children to progress their skills and to develop their confidence for exploring science. We work with a growing team of professionals from complementary sectors such as education, engineering, science and the arts who play an important role in developing the curriculum, as well as in delivering parts of it and training new staff and volunteers. To keep children interested we use a variety of methods such as LEGO Robotics, photography, graphic design, film making and also arts and drama, all interlinked and tailored around science topics. These empower children, nurturing their natural curiosity, their creative thinking and problem solving, helping them to develop new skills and boost their creativity and innovative potential. Through our classes children increase their attention to detail, mathematical thinking, communication, leadership and team-work skills. Our classes are inclusive and support children from low-income backgrounds, looked after children, as well as children from ethnic minority groups and girls. We encourage parents and carers of these children to contact us and enrol their kids into our programmes.
