ABOUT:
Starting from Stanmer Park, this circular walk takes you into the South Downs through forested areas with patches of bluebells, offering stunning scenery along the way. There are public toilets at Falmer station. We begin and finish our walk at Stanmer Park, then catch the train back to Lewes and conclude our walk at a pub near Lewes Train Station.
DESCRIPTION:
The walk begins in Stanmer Park Nature Reserve, nestling under the South Downs. Stanmer forest features beautiful displays of English bluebells, typically blooming from mid-April to early May, as well as wild garlic (if lucky enough to spot it). We then head towards Standean and stop for lunch at the beautiful Chattri Memorial, which offers spectacular views of the sea, Brighton, and the South Downs on a clear day. Chattri Memorial commemorates the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War.
After lunch, we continue our hike through the South Downs Way,
towards Ditchling Beacon, with scenic, hilly terrain and panoramic views of the Weald and the sea. We then walk back through parts of Stanmer Forest and finish the walk at Falmer Station, and take the train back to Lewes, where our walk concludes at a welcoming pub close to Lewes Train Station, and we can relax and reflect on the day’s journey.
