Hike On Lancashire

📅 6 May 2026
📍 PR1 0XW

A lovely 10-mile walk through woodland (Tockholes Plantation and Sunnyhurst Wood) and passing several reservoirs on our way to Darwen Tower. We then return around Darwen Moor to the car park. There are a few steep inclines so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. Well-behaved dogs are welcome (but should be kept on a lead). The suggested donation for non-Ramblers Association (RA) members is £2 to cover Meet-up costs. Please note that we restrict the number of places available on Meet-up as (unlike other Meet-up groups) we have a significant number of Ramblers who attend our walks and we ask them not to register as attending via this app. We would, therefore, respectfully request that you do not reserve a place on any walk unless you are sure that you will attend. Alternatively, why not join us and be a part of the Ramblers for a small annual subscription? Membership guarantees a place on all 'Hike on Lancashire' walks and ensures priority access to events organised by the Group. You can also walk with any other Ramblers Group across the UK. Annual subscriptions go toward maintaining paths and allow the RA to campaign for improved access to the countryside. You will also receive the monthly 'Walk' magazine and a 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoors. You can join by following the link below Please select Hike on Lancashire as your preferred Group. A 7 mile moorland walk, on paths less trodden over to Darwen Tower. Familiar spots such as Hollinshead Hall will be visited before we take paths out over Cartidge Hill, past old mine workings,( not much to see, don't get excited ) and over White Hill before joining the "main paths" to The Tower. We head back to Tockholes via fields and Ryal Fold. Hopefully there will be lots of nesting birds at this time. Dogs on leads. A moorland walk, so come prepared, boggy, tussocks etc. Dress for the weather, bring drinks and snacks. If bad weather on day, we will do an alternative lower walk Total acent 900ft.

New members please add a full face photo or you will not be added. We also prefer you to add something next to your first name if not displaying a surname. Helps us to identify the group payments. We are a friendly group who enjoy walking and socialising and who want to offer a selection of walks for others to join who are experienced in walking/hiking and for those who might like to start. Most of the events will take place across Lancashire, Cumbria, and Yorkshire and other neighbouring areas with a pub or cafe at the end sometimes. THEY WILL BE EASIER WALKS MOSTLY AT A LEISURELY PACE WITH SOME STOPS AND UNDER 10 MILES. a £5 annual membership fee will be due immediately following the second attendance if deciding to stay with us. ALL MEMBERS WHO HAVE NOT ATTENDED AN EVENT WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF JOINING WILL BE REMOVED BUT CAN REJOIN AT AT A LATER DATE. Additionally, our vision is to post some future short camping and hotel breaks away for walking and socialising. Members will be expected to organise their own transport and accommodation for these. You should join this group if you like walking in the country and have the ability to do at least five miles. You need to be friendly and also be respectful of others views that might not always be the same as yours.
