New Forest Unlocked Walking Group

Well, after two months of lock down, we are finally able to see each other again, even if we will be keeping 2m apart for now. This group is to help all of us who need the scenery and fresh air of the new forest (and quite possibly some places further afield at some point) for mental, physical and spiritual well-being. I'll be organising some walks, a bit of a chat and one day soon, I hope, a beer in a pub garden. Everyone welcome, including dogs and well-behaved dog owners.

Join me for a scenic and historic 9km (5.6mi) walk through Beaulieu, Buckler’s Hard, and Bailey’s Hard in the heart of the New Forest. We’ll explore the charming village of Beaulieu, known for its Georgian cottages, Palace House, and the ruins of Beaulieu Abbey, with ponies and donkeys often wandering the streets. From there, we’ll head to Buckler’s Hard, an 18th-century shipbuilding village where wooden warships — including HMS Agamemnon — were built from New Forest oak. Today, it’s a peaceful riverside setting with a fascinating maritime history. We’ll also pass through Bailey’s Hard, once a thriving brickmaking and early shipbuilding site, and walk through woodland that once supplied timber for the navy. Terrain: gravel paths, boardwalks, and,at times, muddy riverside sections. There will be a small charge of £2.00 per head per person for this walk on the day. We are a friendly walking group of mixed ages and abilities focused on walks between 6 to 8 miles covering The New Forest, Wiltshire, Hampshire & Dorset. Further afield on the odd occasion. We normally run one weekend walk on the 4th weekend of the month and one midweek walk on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. More if other members of the group would like to lead a walk. While the group is mainly focussed around walking we also like to do other things together, for example pub lunches, dinners out, a trip to a country fair, festival or other social event. Its really up to the members. If someone has an idea, I'm happy to post it. There is a modest charge of £2 per person per walk to cover the subscription costs of Meetup and other expenses associated with running the group. This is a non smoking group.
