Beginners 4-Week Wheel-Throwing Pottery Course
A 4-week block of classes focused solely on throwing on the wheel. This will be a small class of up to 4 students, aimed at beginner level potters, no prior experience is required. You will have a wheel each for the full length of the lesson and this gives you the ability to focus on your throwing for the full session with support from an experienced tutor. The four weeks are used throw and turn pots enable you to maximise the wheel time available in this short introductory course. The class each week will start with preparation of the clay for throwing. Then following a demonstration of throwing technique by the tutor, you will be given your own wheel to work on, guided and supported with improving your technique through the stages of throwing pots on a wheel. You will learn to work with different weights of clay, progressing to different forms and adding handles if required. At the end of the making session you can choose your best pots to be kept and turned before they are turned, fettled and fired. The cost of classes includes tuition, clay and firing as well as use of tools, aprons and tea/coffee! Glazing is not included in this 4-week block but there are many glazing sessions available to return to and glaze your chosen work. This will be discussed at the classes but should be booked separately, ideally 3-4 weeks after the classes have finished, to allow for drying and bisque firing.
