mini-Raku member workshop – MEMBERS ONLY

This experience is perfect for those who have not yet done any raku and would like to experience raku glazing and firing for the first time. Bisqued pots are provided for this mini-workshop. Participants will get the opportunity of decorating using specialist raku glazes and then take part in the exciting process of raku firing. The pots will be heated to over 1000c and then placed first in reduction bins (lots of fire and smoke!) and then plunged into cold water (lots of steam and hissing!). Participants will then clean up their pots and marvel at the fabulous results that only the Raku process can create. This experience is a perfect introduction to Raku.

In this two-hour mini workshop you’ll learn how to use liquid clay slips and carved lines to build intricate surface designs. Working on soft clay slabs, we’ll demonstrate how to draw with slip, carve decorative lines and fill them with contrasting colours to produce striking patterns and textures. It’s a fascinating decorative technique that allows you to create surfaces that look wonderfully complex while using simple, satisfying processes. By the end of the session you’ll have made your own decorated piece ready for firing and glazing by the studio. This workshop is suitable for those with some basic clay experience.

Pinch Pot Teapot Workshop

Design, build, sculpt: a teapot with personality Teapots are wonderfully quirky creations — part sculpture, part functional art. In this hands on, playful workshop, you’ll learn everything you need to design and build your very own teapot using the pinch pot technique. With lots of time, guidance, and good quality materials, you’ll create something truly unique. What You’ll Learn Step by step, you will explore how to: • Pinch, shape, and refine the teapot body • Add a rim and cut the opening for a perfectly fitting lid • Make a lid and finial • Form a spout from a thin slab of clay • Create an effective strainer • Make and attach an appropriate, well balanced handle • Assemble all components including the base • (Optional) Carve a unique design into your teapot body With these techniques, you can make a traditional teapot — or go wild and create something sculptural, playful, or animal inspired! Decorate & Personalise Once your teapot is built, you’ll have time to experiment with a range of decorating techniques, such as: • Sprigging • Carving • impressing After drying and bisque firing, your piece will be finished with a transparent glaze and fired to a beautiful glossy shine. We are very excited that Julia Elliot from AgamaCreative will be re-joining us on Sunday 4th October.  Following her amazing long legged Horse Sculpture workshop earier this year, this time Julia will show us how to sculpt vibrant hares. Join renowned sculptor Julia Elliot of Agama Creative for an inspiring one-day workshop exploring the art of animal sculpture. Julia is best known for her distinctive animal sculptures full of movement, character, and charm – and in this hands-on session, she’ll guide you step-by-step through creating your own lively hare. Working with leather-hard clay and using slab-building techniques, you’ll learn how to build a dynamic and expressive form. Julia will share her methods for capturing the natural flow of hair and fur in clay, while encouraging you to add your own personality and style to your sculpture. Your finished piece will stand up to 30cm tall, making this an ideal workshop for those ready to take their clay skills to the next level. Mini Workshop – Basic Glazing Techniques MEMBERS ONLY

This is a special mini - workshop for members of the studio only. The workshop will demonstrate effective glazing techniques to ensure the best coverage and the best results from the glaze kiln. Glazing is an art and skill in itself, and many disappointments can be avoided once this skill is mastered as a good glaze application will make all the difference between a poor and a wonderful outcome.
