We are a mixture of native German speakers and people who have learned German as a second language. We meet up once a month in the evening for a drink and a chat in German. We also have some Saturday lunchtime “extra meetups”. While we are an informal group, anyone attending our events should please be ready to hold a conversation in German. All I ask is I) everyone pays £3 for every event they attend (either cash on the night or by PayPal in advance) and ii) that everyone logs into the meetup site at least once in a 12 month period (members who have not visited the site for 12+ months may be removed from the site - unless they have attended an event within those 12 months). Anyone who is removed for being “inactive” for 12+ months is welcome to rejoin any time.

The Edinburgh Language Exchange aims to foster a community of individuals interested in exchanging experiences and knowledge on languages, travel and culture, from all over the world. Our Code of Conduct sets out the basic Be-Nice rules, to ensure a convivial and inclusive atmosphere! We strive to ensure our meetups are open to everybody, whatever their language experience - it's not your level that counts, it's all about the desire to communicate! We host several meetup events as of 2023 : \ All-languages: pub meetup on Wednesday evenings - a self-organising social where you can come and chat and exchange language skills, cultural discussion, and make friends. \ French, Italian, Spanish or English: cafe meetup on Saturday mornings - a hosted social for people to meet in the quiet of a cafe to start the week-end with a smile, exchanging language skills, learn from others, teach others, over coffee, tea and maybe some viennoiseries or cake ;-) \* Spot meetups organised by members who have their own passion for languages - cafe events, walks, cinema outings... if you would like to have your own language-oriented event and announce to the group, get in touch !
