The Hackney Jam

Sat
📅 Every saturday
📍 E1 1LN

Calling all aspiring or live music performers looking to jam with other musicians and singers to improve those musical skills! Details on how the jam runs are provided on each of the event pages. Most are generic songs, and occasionally we'll throw in a themed jam to mix it up. It's a mixed group of all abilities, and designed to accommodate all. Those that are able to play by ear, show up and play. Those that need chord structures and keys will use the jam sheet to find those resources. On the day, the songs are played one time through, or twice if anyone also wants to play or sing on the same song, but the challenge is to play it slightly differently. There's no rehearsing on the stage, with each song taking 5-10mins max before rotation. So each song should be learnt or known before showing up to jam them out. All that being said, it's a pretty relaxed and supportive group that encourages 'winging it' and challenging ourselves on various instruments and styles.

This looks like a pretty good Aretha Franklin tribute, from the "Simply Dan" people, a collective of professional musicians who "do" Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac and quite a few other bands. I've been hearing good things about this one - there's a 9-piece band - so bound to be a terrific brass section! It's billed as standing/seated, so I reckon we need to get there for 7.30 to get seats if you don't want to stand all night! Show starts at 8 pm. Tickets are just £20 at:- and NB I'll be collecting £2 Meetup fee from all attendees, unless you've opted to set up a standing order for an annual sub of £10 to the Club account, a/c no 21633813 Sort Code 40-25-03 a/c name "Friendly Brighton" with the reference "'your Meetup name' Sub". Ceri James isdescribed as the king of playful anthemic Americana infused music (no I don’t know what that is either).singalong choruses abound and though he has a band,’ the red flames’ , today he’s on his own. There are floor spots so if you fancy a warble you’re very welcome. The gig is free but with a hat going round…the suggested amount is a fiver. The venue is a tiny micro pub which has won awards from CAMRA. As well as booze there is excellent coffee. No sandwiches but the proprietor is quite happy for punters to take their own in.
