Unity in art refers to how the different elements within a painting work together to create a cohesive whole. This unity plays an important role in forming visually pleasing works of art that draw viewers into their scene. We will discuss unity in art, exploring the visual elements of unity such as line, colour, texture, shape, form and space, and also look at how other design principles such as balance, pattern and variety overlap with unity. In preparation please watch the tutorial. The session will be a discussion based around images that you bring. Please bring images of your own, or other artists artwork, that highlight a couple of the listed elements that create unity. Please also bring an image of a successful artwork that you think shows minimal use of the principles of unity. Just how important is unity?

The Mounira Al Solh exhibition will have been running for a couple of months by the time we visit together, but then as we always say, art's best seen when it's seen together. And it's a brilliant exhibition to experience. Al Solh, born in Beirut and now working in the Netherlands and Lebanon, presents at Arnolfini a gorgeous exhibition comprising ceramics, paintings, sculptures, installation pieces, fabrics and a variety of materials in stunning colours, but which conceal often particularly dark and uncomfortable stories, about migration, gender, inequality and identity. Together, we'll be exploring the show and as always will have some time before and afterwards to talk about the work and how we each feel about the exhibition. Event details: 12pm: We'll meet at The Architect, right next to the Arnolfini. Please arrive at any point over the hour. 1pm: We'll head into the Arnolfini and congregate in the reception/lobby area before heading around the exhibition and space. 2:15pm: We'll gather at the entrance and head over to The Shakespeare nearby to have a drink and a chat about the exhibition. What to bring: A notebook if you want to write down your thoughts. Preparation: Extra marks for anyone who does some research on the exhibition. Etiquette: As always, if you can't make it just send a message to let me know and take your name off the RSVP list. Cost: There is a small £2 charge for this, just to help me cover the admin fees for running this group. For context, it costs £170 every 6 months to keep the group going. Thank you for your support and if you fancy supporting the running of the group any further please follow the link here 🙏 Support the group here Health & Safety: If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend the event (just send me a message if you could). See you there! Dom (If you need to contact me if you're going to be late or can't find us,
