CHILLY OPEN WATER SWIMMING INTRODUCTION This session is perfect for anyone who is looking to swim in open water. Swimming in open water is different and understanding how to do things is key to swimming safely. Are you a complete newbie to open water swimming and looking to give it a go? Are you tempted to see what all the fuss is about then why not book on and give it a go! You can never have enough knowledge when it comes to swimming in open water. The health benefits of being in open/chilly water are huge to both our physical and mental health. But you have to know how to go about doing things in a sensible, safe way. AIM OF THE SESSION This session will last approximately 2 hours and aims to provide you with the information so you will be able to swim safely in open/chilly water over the winter months. The session will start with a whole group talk of the do's and don'ts, the health benefits, equipment you may need when swimming in open water. How to overcome cold water shock, what happens to your body, signs of hypothermia, exiting safely and about the after drop (continued cooling) There will be a supervised swim after the talk. (Tow floats are provided for all swimmers) The length of swim time in the water will depend on the temperature. All swimmers will be required to get changed together so you can be observed at all times whilst warming up post swim. A post swim hot drink is included in the cost. After the session will you will receive a post session email so you have all the information to hand so you can continue to swim sensibly over the winter months. Hot showers are not recommended after swimming in cold water. This is a great opportunity to experience the benefits of this amazing activity and meet like minded people. This one hour lesson is for you advanced/confident pool swimmers who would like to master the art of performing flip/tumble turns. Being able to swim in a pool continuously and not having to stop after each length to turn around will help improve your swimming in so many ways and take your swimming to the next level. When swimming in open water you don't stop every 25m for an extra breath, so adding these turns to your pool sessions will assist your open water swimming too. This 90 minute lesson is designed for those swimmers who maybe fairly new to swimming in open water and have their first event planned or a triathlon. The session will cover some of the main open water skills you may need to call on for your swim event or triathlon. Participants must be able to swim at least 1000m plus steady front crawl in OPEN WATER. You should be able to swim this distance without stopping or tiring. If you are unable to swim this distance comfortably then this lesson will not be suitable. SWIMMERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO BRING AND WEAR THEIR OWN SWIMMING WETSUIT. SESSION WILL COVER: -Sighting -Swimming in a straight line -Treading water -Deep water mass starts -Drafting -Buoy Turns This 90 minute lesson will look at the main open water swim skills you may need to use when swimming in an open water swim event or triathlon.

Whether you are new to open water, need to improve your stroke, learn a new stroke, gain confidence in open water e.g. rivers, train for a swim event. I have a variety of sessions on offer for individuals and small groups. Private sessions can be tailored to the individual’s requirements. INDIVIDUAL LESSONS 1-2-1 - sessions tailored to the individual needs – 1 hour SMALL PRIVATE GROUP LESSONS 2-2-1- ideally participants are of similar standard and want to work on the same thing in the lesson - 1 hour for technique. 90 minutes for an open water introduction. 60 minute technique lessons: (lake entry is included) 1-2-1 - £70.00 an hour 2-2-1 - £95.00 an hour 90 minute private introduction - 1-2-1 - £90 (lake entry included) -Private 60 minute technique sessions can be tailored to the individual’s requirements. -Technique lessons have a full hour in the water working on technique. -Introductory lessons involve a talk and a short supervised swim. -Post session emails are sent to participants. This session is designed for kids aged 8 and above (who are happy swimming out of their depth) to understand the dangers of open water and to learn how to stay safe near any area of water. You will learn what to do in an emergency and understand about cold water shock and how to over come it. This session lasts approximately 1 hours 15 minutes and aims to provide you with information of how to stay safe around water and what to do in an emergency. Any questions you may have can then be answered. The session involves a water safety talk and then a short swim activity in the lake wearing clothes learning how to float and to perform rescues. Parents please bring swim attire too as you may be required to go in the water if I feel your child is not confident to enter by themselves.

This course is designed for those of you that have yet to master how to swim front crawl efficiently. And for those of you who have tried learning front crawl but get puffed out after swimming it for short distances and are unable to swim more than a couple lengths comfortably. This course is not for swimmers that have never attempted to swim front crawl before. If looking to learn front crawl for the first time, or you really struggle to swim a couple of lengths front crawl, or you are not comfortable with your face in the water, then please look at the beginners course as this will be more suitable. If you can already swim head in front crawl, efficiently and for longer distances eg 800m plus without tiring then please book onto the advanced session. Course will cover: - Learning how to breathe correctly and how to breathe efficiently whilst swimming. - Learning how to scull and catch the water. - Refreshing front crawl technique and what you should be doing with your head, body, legs and arms. By the end of the course you will have an understanding of front crawl and how things should feel when you are swimming the stroke so you can continue to practice at your own pace. Being able to practice in between the lessons will really help too. Each lesson is 60 minutes. Post session emails are sent to all attendees covering the stroke points and drills so you can refer back to it. Please read the attendee instructions to ensure you are suitable to attend the course. This course is also suitable for those swimmers that struggle to swim a couple of lengths front crawl and those that only swim front crawl with your head out of the water. THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR NON SWIMMERS. YOU MUST BE POOL CONFIDENT TO ATTEND. If you can already swim head in front crawl for more than a couple of lengths without stopping then please look at the improvers course. Course will cover: - Learning how to breathe correctly with your face in the water and how to breathe efficiently whilst swimming. - Learning how to scull. - Learning front crawl technique and what you should be doing with your head, body, legs and arms. By the end of the course you will have an understanding of front crawl and how things should feel when you are swimming the stroke so you can continue to practice at your own pace. Being able to practice in between the lessons will really help too. Each lesson is 75 minutes. IMPROVERS BREASTSTOKE LESSON Breaststroke tends to be over looked when it comes swimming especially if you swim in open water. Being a swim teacher means I can instruct on all four strokes. More and more people are choosing to swim breaststroke so this session is designed for those people, so they can become more efficient. These two lessons are aimed at those that can swim basic BREASTSTROKE but would like to improve. During the session you will be given swim practices to help improve your stroke. We will look at body/head position, leg kick, arms, breathing and timing. Post session emails are sent out with the stroke points so you can refer back to them. PREREQUISITE: Participants must be able to swim breaststroke for at least 25m and happy to swim out of their depth. Goggles are optional but if wanting to improve efficiency they are well worth having.
