This course focusses on the roles and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead and requires participants to have previously completed basic safeguarding and child protection training. This is an accredited 1 day in-person course and meets the EYFS 2025 criteria for effective safeguarding training. Course Content Role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Safer recruitment and pre-appointment checks. Staff induction. Training requirements for staff and ways to embed safeguarding. Managing and recording concerns and referrals. Supporting staff. Managing allegations against staff / volunteers and dealing with low-level concerns. Features of a safe and open culture, including the process to follow for whistleblowing. Paediatric First Aid training for those working with children and babies in early years, childcare and play settings. This 12-hour course (over 2 days) is delivered by Acorn Health and Safety Ltd. It meets the criteria set by the DfE and Ofsted requirements and attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance, which will be valid for three years. • 2 place limit per setting • It is essential that participants complete the whole course. Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs & speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention, listening, comprehension, memory, recall, organisation of language & expression. With Makaton, children & adults can communicate straight away using signs & symbols. Using signs can help people who have no speech or whose speech is unclear. Children & adults can use Makaton to let others know what they want, make choices, share information & understand more. This helps build & develop important communication & language skills. This course has been developed by the Safer Recruitment Consortium and is designed for professionals involved in recruiting staff within early years, childcare and play. It focuses on ensuring robust recruitment practices that help prevent unsuitable individuals from working with children or vulnerable groups. Course Content: • Safer recruitment within the wider context of safeguarding. • Prevalence of abuse and understanding the profile of abusers. • How abusers operate within organisations. • Key features of a safer recruitment process. • Planning and preparing a safe recruitment process. • Making safer decisions during interview and selection. • Establishing and maintaining acceptable staff behaviour standards. • Promoting an ongoing culture of vigilance and safeguarding.
