Exeter Raw Writing Meetup Group

All agesThu
📅 30 Apr 2026
📍 EX4 3LS

You've heard of the Silent Book Club, where people read together in silence... now welcome to the Silent Writing Club! Carla Jenkins, founder of Raw Writing, realised that what writers need is to carve out time within their day to write - to make an appointment to write, just like you need to make time to walk the dog, go to the gym, or spend time with a friend. The Silent Writing Club takes place in The Workshop at Exeter Phoenix, Bradninch Place, Gandy Street, Exeter, EX4 3LS Silent Writing 12.30 - 1.30pm, coffee or whatever else you fancy in the cafe bar from 1.30-2.30pm Anyone is welcome to come along and write in silence for an hour with us. It's free and you don't need to book, but we do operate on a first come, first served basis - if places are full when you arrive, we invite you to write in the cafe downstairs and we will join you afterwards. You are welcome to join us for a coffee and a catch up after our hour's writing - in fact, even if you don't fancy doing the writing, you're welcome to join us for the social afterwards (we will be in the cafe bar from 1.30pm). We look forward to seeing you there!

Devon Oral Storytellers

All agesFri
📅 15 May 2026
📍 EX4 3PQ

Exeter Story Club is on the last Wednesday of the month (save in exceptional circumstances and sometimes we don't meet in July or August if everyone is away). A supportive gathering to try out new pieces or simply to relax and listen to spoken storytelling at its best. We meet at Exeter Library, Castle Street, Exeter, EX4 3PQ !! Beware - at the moment this event listing for Exeter Story Club is not 100% correct because there isn’t a setting for the last Wednesday of every month available within that platform, so it’s listed as the fourth Wednesday of every month, which is incorrect in the months of April, July, and September, so be aware . Hopefully, we’ll be able to get this corrected as soon as possible. !! There is a 15 minute maximum length for stories/music and if anyone goes over that, they will incur the Harmonica of Doom! :) As we love to get everyone’s oral stories in. Two-parters can be arranged, just let us know! All stories must be from memory. No reading aloud allowed. Support the oral tradition :) . All welcome. • What to bring IMPORTANT - Bring you own drinks and snacks as Exeter Library doesn't have a bar. Besides that, bring yourself, a pair of listening ears and an open imagination. There will be a hat for donations

Exeter (and international) Philosophy Meetup Group

Thu
📅 25 Jun 2026
📍 EX4 4AH

Welcome to this discussion group for the introspective and those that enjoy pondering the inponderables. We hope to plunder the depths of life's questions and pursue the elusive meaning of existence. If you enjoy delving into the profound aspects of human experience and engaging in thoughtful conversations that go beyond small talk, then this group could be right up your street (literally or metaphorically)! We are an informal, friendly gathering of individuals passionate about considering some of the head scratchers that have captivated thinkers throughout history. Whether you're a seasoned philosopher or simply someone with a curious mind and an open heart, you are most welcome to join our discussions. No prior knowledge of philosophical schools of thought or famous philosophers is required – all you need is a willingness to listen attentively and contribute respectfully to the conversation, be that with your own questions, or perhaps your own insights. Our meetups are held online, allowing us to connect with like-minded individuals from around the globe, should they be available and happy to listen to a primarily British accent. While the group was set up with a focus on the wonderful folk of Exeter, we encourage participants from all corners of the world to join us, as our virtual setting knows no geographical bounds. Who knows? You might even forge connections with fellow philosophy enthusiasts in your own local community! Currently the meetups will be in English only, but if enough demands are made, we can consider getting closed captions for attendees with other language requirements. So, if you're ready to embark on a journey of intellectual exploration and engage in stimulating, open-minded discussions, come and join us. We look forward to welcoming you, whether you're a regular participant or a first-time attendee. Each session is a unique experience, and we value the fresh perspectives and insights that every individual brings to the table. \-\-\- Wa

Exeter Philosophy Playground Cafe Conversations

Wed
📅 Every wednesday
📍 EX1 1EN

Enjoy getting a drink, sitting with open-minded people, and splitting into teams. We discuss three big questions within an hour surrounding different insightful topics. Then we re-group and discuss the ideas together. Topics change each session. Doesn’t require any previous knowledge of philosophy. Any and all people and opinions welcome. Official time is from 7pm-9pm but all are welcome to stay longer. Donations are appreciated! 📝 We encourage staying on topic but the 'playground' aspect of our group means exploratory conversation is common! Some topics may be more challenging or controversial than others, so come with an open mind, ready for diverse perspectives. Above all, we ask every member to engage with kindness and respect.
