Manchester Armchair Philosophers

Tue
📅 Every tuesday
📍 M21 9FA

Would you like to meet other people for some thoughtful discussion, for an adventure into our minds, debating philosophical issues in an environment of curiosity? We are self supporting in that members present issues for us to debate. This means we have fresh ideas and challenges each week. Usually once a month, we examine news items and how the ancients may have seen them. We want to keep philosophy accessible, vibrant, relevant and alive.

Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals. What to Expect Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing. For more information about our organization, visit

Slow Conversations Manchester

Thu
📅 27 Aug 2026
📍 M3 3AP

What this group is about Most social spaces reward performance, speed, or status. This one does not. We meet for unhurried, face-to-face conversations about things that actually matter — meaning, friendship, suffering, joy, purpose, and ordinary life. The focus is simple: the experience of being genuinely listened to, and of listening in return. There is no curriculum, no hierarchy, no required reading, and no pressure to be insightful or impressive. The only expectations are curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to listen as carefully as you speak. What this group is about Most social spaces reward performance, speed, or status. Conversations are open and unhurried. There are no formal activities, lectures, or exercises. The structure is deliberately light so that real contact can happen. Numbers are kept small by design. The long-term aim is a stable circle of people who gradually come to know and trust one another. Who this is for People who value warmth, patience, honesty, and the capacity to stay with another person’s experience. Who this is not for People primarily looking to network, debate, preach, date, or perform. If you have been looking for a space where presence matters more than performance, you are welcome.
