Working on a poem, a novel, an article, or an essay? Whatever you are writing, this session is about helping each other stay focused and motivated. We will be following the Pomodoro Technique, which entails writing for 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute break. We share our aims for the session at the beginning, and then debrief at the end. All writers welcome. Sessions will be held in The Gallery Bar at Summerhall (just by the Meadows) - it offers a good range of hot drinks and snacks, and is spacious and sunny :)

Edinburgh Book Group

Tue
📅 9 Jun 2026
📍 EH2 2PJ

A simple group. We choose a book for the next meeting and then meet up to discuss it over a drink. The books are important, but the getting together, discussing the book while making new friends is what it is really all about. We will read books from all genres and from authors from around the world, as well as from different time periods. Nothing is off-limits. It can seem daunting coming along to a meeting for the first time on your own. We have all experienced those feelings at our first meeting, not knowing what to expect. New faces and points of view are welcomed at every meeting. The aim is to be social and friendly, with the book a theme with which the evening revolves around, but with wider ideas and issues discussed. The Edinburgh Book Group is all about lively discussion and debate around books we're reading as a group as well as a social evening where you can meet new like minded people that share a common interest. There should usually be two or three forthcoming meetings listed as some people need more time to plan ahead their reading and because not everyone can come to every meeting or fancy every book choice. Meetings will be held approximately every two to three weeks, so if you can't make one, a new meeting is not too far away. As with any Meetup group, there are considerations beforehand with planning, numbers and reservations. If you sign up to an event and are unable to make it, please take a minute to update your RSVP and/or send a message. Two no-shows in a row will result in removal from the group.

Bury Me In Books – Edinburgh Book Club

Wed
📅 27 May 2026
📍 EH12 5BA

Welcome to the Bury Me In Books Edinburgh Book Club! 📚✨ Are you passionate about diving into captivating stories, exploring new worlds, and discussing the depths of character development over a cup of coffee or a pint? Then this is the group for you! Each month, we'll open up selection on instagram for the monthly book from a selection of fiction books. From timeless classics to contemporary bestsellers, our bookshelf knows no bounds! 📖💬 Just a few group rules: Attendance: Going forward, we’ll be introducing a 3-strike policy. If you don’t attend an event or don’t give at least 24 hours’ notice on 3 occasions, we may need to remove you from the group. I really don’t want to do this, but it’s important to be mindful of the tables we book and those on the waiting list when deciding whether to attend. Sharing the Conversation: We want to make sure everyone has a chance to share their thoughts on the book, so please try not to dominate the conversation. If you speak over others, it can limit the opportunity for everyone to chime in! WhatsApp Chat: Let's try to keep the chat focused on the book club—updates, discussions, and event details. It’s not ideal for personal messages or promoting other groups, as it can get cluttered for those who just want book-related info. Respect & Welcoming Atmosphere: Above all, let’s be respectful and kind to one another, and make sure all attendees feel welcome at events. A friendly and inclusive vibe is what makes this group special!

Edinburgh Creative Writers Club

Tue
📅 23 Jun 2026
📍 EH8 8AQ

Edinburgh Creative Writers Club was established as a face to face critique group by its founder, James Gibson. When the pandemic hit, James moved the group to online. That format proved to be more productive and allowed writers from around the world to join. James will sadly soon be stepping down as organizer of the group, but Susan Duncan, located in Edinburgh and Tish Eastman, located in California, both longtime members of the group, will carry Jame’s legacy into the future. This is a multi-genre critique group: many of our writers are working on science fiction novels, but we also have YA fantasy, horror, non-fiction, flash fiction, and poetry offered up for constructive critique each week. You will need to be able to share your document using zoom share screen, so if you are unfamiliar with that, there are many YouTube tutorials to watch. For time constraints, each writer can share two poems, or a prose piece of around 2,000 words maximum. We meet from 7pm till 10pm every Tuesday, GMT. That’s 11:00 AM in California. By RSVP-ing to each event you will receive email links, and notifications in the unlikely event of a cancellation. We also appreciate knowing how many will be in each meeting. Applying for membership: When applying for membership please provide a photograph of yourself, together with a response to the question: 'What sort of thing do I write?'.
