Liverpool Philosophy Playground – Intellectual Conversations

18+Thu
📅 30 Apr 2026
📍 L3 9NS

Free fortnightly event in The Cross Keys. Enjoy getting a drink, sitting with like-minded people, and splitting into teams. We discuss three big questions within an hour surrounding different insightful topics. Then we re-group and discuss the ideas together. Topics change each time, but this week the topic is "privacy". We don't require any previous knowledge of philosophy; this is a chance to discuss thought experiments, such as trolley problems and "would you rather...?" Any and all people and opinions welcome! Official time is from 7pm-9:30pm but all are welcome to stay longer. We will occupy the function room - or ask the bar staff to point you in the right direction! Donations are appreciated to cover our MeetUp fees, and can be made online via QR code or in person as cash. More info -

📅 Every saturday
📍 L1 3BT

CREATIVE WRITING GROUP("QUEER THE PAGE") and: BOOK GROUP. BOTH GROUPS ARE SAFER SPACE GROUPS: you must identify as LGBTQ(and be over 18). ALL MEMBERS AND ATTENDEES HAVE TO BE 18+. If there is ANY doubt that you are above 18, the Organiser has the right to request that you provide written documentation to prove your age(birth certificate, driving licence, passport)and ask the venue to tell you to leave the premises if you cannot do that. You may return, with the required documentation, at a future event. The books/writing need not necessarily be lgbtq in content. ALL MERSEYSIDE LGBTQ(18+) GROUPS ARE TRANS-AFFIRMATIVE;and welcoming of trans people, and gender-non-conforming folk(18+). Any expressed gender-critical views will NOT be tolerated. \The Quaker Meeting House (venue for BOTH groups) is a SOBER SPACE; they do not sell alcohol, and alcohol must \not\ be brought into the premises; the Organiser/Group Leader will ensure the venue asks anyone who brings alcohol, or arrives under the influence of alcohol, to leave the venue immediately\ {NB the Q in LGBTQ refers to anyone under the umbrella of queer, NOT questioning. All our groups are for people who are at the stage where they feel comfortable enough(with our support, like meeting you at the door!)to actually ATTEND a real-world meeting; they are NOT for people who just think they MIGHT be lgbtq: there are resources(eg Sahir House) for people who are at the very START of their journey of questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. PLEASE READ INDIVIDUAL EVENT DESCRIPTIONS CAREFULLY. We will prepare by reading books (mostly fiction) and during the meetup we will be sharing opinions while drinking wine or whatever else you fancy. Anyone is welcome to come and there is no attendance fee. Also, at the end of the meetup, we will pick together the next book that we will read.

The Thinking Room

The Thinking Room

📍 L1 4JA

The Human Condition is a discussion group for people who want to explore life’s bigger questions. Together we’ll discuss topics such as meaning, morality, happiness, suffering, relationships, psychology, culture, current events, human behaviour and the challenges of modern life. You don’t need any background in philosophy or academia. This isn’t a lecture, debate club or therapy group. The aim is to create a space where thoughtful, honest conversations can take place about the questions many people think about but rarely get the opportunity to discuss openly. Whether you’re interested in ethics, society, human nature, purpose, politics, faith, identity or the way we live our lives, all perspectives are welcome. Come with curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to listen as well as share.
