After reading Josephine Tey's Miss Pym Disposes in November, now's your chance to read Nicola Upson's take on Tey the author as Tey the amateur detective. It's March 1934, and Golden Age crime writer Josephine Tey is travelling from Scotland to London to celebrate what should be the triumphant final week of her celebrated play, Richard of Bordeaux. However, a seemingly senseless murder puts her reputation, and even her life, under threat. An Expert in Murder is both a tribute to one of the most enduringly popular writers of crime and an atmospheric detective novel in its own right. 'Highly original and elegantly written... The first of what promises to be a distinguished series.' P D James You'll find us in the Station Tavern next to Cambridge Station (see directions under "How to find us"). Please bring along £1 per session (or £12 for the year) as a contribution to the annual Meetup fee.
Welcome to the popcorn and pages monthly book club. We meet the first Wednesday of each month at the Burleigh Arms, 9-11 Newmarket Rd, Cambridge, CB5 8EG. We're an informal, social group, with around 15 individuals attending each meeting. There is no expectation of 'serious' debate and the ethos is very open, respectful and friendly. If you're interested in coming along and have not yet read or finished the book, don't worry, you won't be alone. We discuss the book choice for about an hour or so, before taking suggestions for later reads. Everyone is welcome to stay on for a drink and general chat afterwards. We always pick our books two months in advance to allow as much time as possible to read them. You're welcome to bring a book suggestion. May book Shy Creatures by Clare Chambers

This group aims to read the best in literature, mainly novels, and and then to discuss and share your thoughts and opinions with others. We're fun and we don't take it too seriously! We will hold discussion groups based on one book at a time where members will be encouraged to share their experience and opinions. Do join if you are interested in literature, have an open mind, and want to learn from other people and other moments in time. You don't need to be an expert, just someone who likes reading! If you want notification of events and polls to chose each month's book, do check to make sure you are subscribed to the group's 'announcements'.
