Reading Humanists

Tue
📅 Every tuesday
📍 RG1 6FN

This is a group for anyone who is, or thinks they might be, a Humanist, or who simply wants to find out more about Humanism in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere. We have a lively programme of free events including talks by external speakers, courses, discussions on topical issues, a book group, and other social activities. We are also active in the community promoting humanism in schools and at public events. All our events are open to both members and non-members. Come along and meet us, we’re a friendly and engaging bunch. All are welcome! Humanists are people who shape their own lives in the here and now because we believe it's the only life we have. We treat others with compassion, warmth, understanding and respect. We understand the amazing world we live in through reason and science. We recognise the moral responsibility to protect the environment and to make the world a better place for the sake of current and future generations. Reading Humanists welcome all who share these views, and those who are curious about humanism. You can find out more by: browsing the Reading Humanists website looking on Meetup: Reading Humanists following us on Facebook: Reading Humanists Page signing up for our Email Newsletter Please consider supporting Reading Humanists by Joining Reading Humanists helping us to provide a stronger voice for the non-religious in Reading. Sun
📅 7 Jun 2026
📍 RG1 6FN

Saluton! We're all interested in learning and practising Esperanto, the international language. This isn't anything formal and we won't be listening to lectures or anything like that. We're just a bunch of people from around Reading, Berkshire and Oxford who enjoy Esperanto and would love to meet other people to speak it with. If you're interested but don't yet know Esperanto, why not give the course on the Duolingo app a go or pop by the Lernu site?

Caversham Writers

Wed
📅 Every wednesday
📍 RG1 8BT

This is a group for anyone interested in writing and meeting other writers in the Caversham and wider Berkshire area. For our online meetings, we also welcome members globally. We were founded in 2018 by Canadian author Crystal Bourque with an ethos that we still maintain today: "If you write, you're a writer." Subscribe to our newsletter!! We've always been free to join and free to attend. To help keep it that way, please consider Buying Me A Coffee, all donations go towards the running of the group. All skill levels are welcome - published or unpublished, aspiring authors or enthusiastic hobbyists. We have members that write in all genres, so whether you write fiction or non-fiction, poetry or prose, fantasy or reality, you will fit right in. We currently hold meetings in 4 different formats: Writing Meetings. In which we'll either work on (or start) any writing project of our own choosing, or we'll set a theme or prompt for all to use as a starting point. Feedback Meetings. In which we'll provide feedback on excerpts of members work, either submitted in advance or read out to the group on the night. Feedback should be constructive, encouraging, and tailored to the author's directed instruction. Author Events. In which published authors come along to talk to the group. We have a Q & A with them about their writing process and path to publication. Writes & Bites. In which we meet for a social evening, usually at a local restaurant. No writing involved in these events, they are an opportunity to get to know each other better and, of course, to discuss all things writing. We also have occasional one off special events, such as literary festival talks, book signings, launch parties.

Tue
📅 2 Jun 2026
📍 RG1 3BY

Welcome all! This group is for those of you who can't go a day without diving deep into a world overflowing with magic, monsters and futuristic tech. Be it in books, movies or even games. For book/comic/manga readers: If you're familiar with and love the works of the likes of Isaac Asimov, Brandon Sanderson, or if manga is more your thing, and you want to discuss ideas, theories, or even just opinions then please don't be shy. Join us and let us know what you're currently reading! For movie/TV show/anime watchers: If you like to sit in front of the big screen and take in the wonder of new worlds bigger and brighter (and probably better) than this rock we call Earth then you can find a place here amongst fellow movie goers. Join us and let us know which upcoming movie you're looking forward to! For game players: If you prefer to experience the adventure yourself while using sharpened senses (and weapons) and well thought out strategies to defeat monsters and move up the ranks then look no further, this is where you're meant to be! Join us and let us know which games you play! Schedule: Doja and Steve will host various events over the month, some without a fixed schedule but some events will have a regular spot in the calendar; Every first Tuesday of the month, we will host our monthly book club where you read the book in your spare time and then turn up to the book club for a casual discussion. Every third Wednesday of the month there will be a general meetup for people to chill, grab a drink and meet new people. * We will meet on the Monday following the official release of a film for quick drinks and a group trip to the cinema. Once again, thank you for being here and we look forward to seeing you soon! Doja and Steve
