We are a friendly and informal social group for arts and culture enthusiasts in and around Oxford. If you love music, spoken word, dance, cinema, comedy, theatre, galleries and museums and more, do join us. If you want to promote an arts event and are happy to host a Meetup on the day please contact the organiser. Meetup organisation costs are nearly £400 per year. Please make a £2 contribution when attending an event.
ZonaSur Cinema Club, an initiative dedicated to showcasing the rich diversity and complexity of Latin American cinema. We present films that reflect the cultural, social, and political realities of the region, aiming to foster dialogue, critical reflection, and empathy through film — connecting audiences to global stories that often go unheard. Organised by @curiobookshop and @ZonaSur_Cinema, and supported by the BFI Southeast Fund, our work extends beyond screenings: we curate programmes, invite guest speakers, coordinate outreach, and create spaces for meaningful engagement around urgent and underrepresented issues. This group is for Oxford (and Oxfordshire) based film fans who want to to meet fellow film fans, to socialise, and to discuss all things movies. Did you love a film you watched recently, or do you want to rant about it? How did you feel watching it? Why don't you come and socialise over a nice relaxing drink in the Curzon bar as we discuss what new releases (and some classic ones!) we've seen recently at home and in the cinema. Whether you're a casual movie fan who streams from their sofa, or a hardcore cinema going film buff, all are welcome! This is done on a monthly basis. From time to time we do film screenings too! This group is for fellow film lovers who want to socialise, connect, and share their interest in independent and international cinema. Each month, we choose a theme, watch films (together or independently) that fit the theme, and meet to discuss. Join us to connect with fellow cinephiles, explore unique storytelling, and engage in meaningful discussions. Any accounts with anonymous or company names will be removed. Defining "Indie" - What films do we cover? According to The Film Encyclopedia, "independent" is defined as: 1. A filmmaker or film producer who operates outside the major studios, retaining a greater degree of artistic control. 2. A film distribution and/or production company that is not one of the major studios. * Beyond the technicalities of this definition, we discuss films that push boundaries, explore unique storytelling, and often fly under the radar of mainstream cinema. This includes small-budget productions, auteur-driven films, international gems that didn’t get wide releases, and thought-provoking works that challenge conventional filmmaking. In short, if you are looking for a community and like discussing less mainstream films that deserve a spotlight, this group is for you!
Are you a professional person who has worked hard all your life and would love to find time to meet other like-minded professionals and actually enjoy the precious moments we get when there are times we can use to relax. Is Finding friends who understand how important it is to wind down after that intense week at work important to you? Come and join us as we start a journey of great friendship and take part in some wonderful plethora of activies that will be open to everyone in and around Oxfordshire.
