community for the curious

Cadavre Exquis – a new social community for Oxford's curious.
CURIOUS, adj. 1. interested in the people and things around you. 2. strange and unusual.
Cadavre Exquis is a new independent social group that meets regularly in central Oxford, over drinks and conversation – regularly enough to make some friends along the way. Newcomers are always welcome.
What actually happens: we meet in a pub, get a drink, and have a relaxed group discussion – but with a twist. Rather than picking a subject and grinding through it, we let chance choose our topics, so the conversation wanders somewhere you wouldn't expect. Some questions are playful, some strange, some go surprisingly deep. No preparation or expertise needed – you just turn up and join in. Events run for around two hours in the evening, and we aim to meet roughly every couple of weeks.
Our ethos is simple: curiosity is a skill worth practising. It teaches us to look outside ourselves, and to stay open to a world that turns out to be stranger and more interesting than it first appears — and that this is all best done in good company.
Discussion over drinks is our regular format, but not every event will be the same. We'll also run occasional curiosities – themed conversation nights, informal talks, walks around Oxford, the odd surprise.
Who it's for: the curious and the wide-ranging – people whose interests don't fit in one box, who'd rather be surprised than comfortable, and who are quietly tired of small talk about work and the weather. It's just interesting people having interesting conversations (or is it curious people having curious conversations?). You don't need any particular knowledge – only curiosity, and a willingness to follow it somewhere unexpected.
The practical bits: the group is free to join and free to attend. It's small, independent, and not affiliated with any business or organisation.
