Hiking Manchester

Sun
📅 28 Jun 2026
📍 M3 3AP

We are a walking, hiking and scrambling group formed in Autumn 2018 with a laid back attitude. Although we are based in Manchester and the North West of England, we put on a range of events from short local walks to all day hikes in the Lake District, Peak District, Yorkshire and North Wales. Walks are graded as easy, moderate and hard. The grading depends on factors such as the terrain, distance, feet of ascent/descent and the speed of the walk. Please check the descriptions carefully. We welcome new members, new walk leaders and event organisers. We are not professional guides and all walks are on a not for profit basis. Twitter
Facebook Instagram
Please treat event leaders with the same respect you would a friend you were meeting. ‘No showing’ has several negative effects- it prevents someone on the waiting list attending the event, the group is left waiting for you to arrive and ultimately event leaders are disheartened and stop running walks. Please alter your RSVP if you cannot make an event. The group policy is that 3 ‘no shows’ results in a member being removed from the group.

MAD Walkers – 20s-30s Manchester hiking group

📅 17 May 2026
📍 M21 8XF

We’re the MAD (Manchester and District) walkers. Since 2004 we’ve been hosting regular hikes for Manchester people in their 20s and 30s. Our website, with our full events programme, can be found at Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see photos of previous walks and socials. Our walks range from short & easy, great for new starters, to long and challenging routes for those looking to push themselves. Most events are accessible by public transport, taking advantage of Manchester’s comprehensive rail network. Once at the walk start location, we’ll gather for a short introduction — just look for the large group of people in hiking boots! Our weekend walks often attract 30 people — not everyone will RSVP on Meetup, so don’t worry if the attendee list looks small. Beyond walks, we also host regular social events. Our monthly drinks meet-up is a great way to get to know the group. Members and new-joiners are welcome, just drop-in at a time that suits you. Occasionally we also organise weekend trips away, which is a great way to experience areas outside the immediate reach of Manchester. Typically we book out an entire hostel or campsite for the weekend and offer an all-in price to come along. For our DIY weekends, members arrange their own food and accommodation, meeting at the hike start. The MAD Walkers are part of the Ramblers, Britain’s walking charity: All our events are not-for-profit and run by volunteers. New joiners are welcome to come along to 3 walks for free, after which point we ask people to become a member. An individual membership is around £43 a year, which unlocks benefits like socials, weekends away, access to our members-only Facebook group and discounts at local retailers. For more information, and our full events programme, check out our website at Hopefully we’ll see you soon.

New joiners welcome! 🥾 A leisurely circular walk to enjoy the evening sunshine and views over the Chat Moss Nature Reserve. After the walk there will be an option to have a drink at either the Irlam Station Bar or another one nearby. Itinerary: 17:36 - Meet at Manchester Oxford Road station. (Or just go directly to the train!). 17:46 - Train departs for Irlam station. 18:06 - Walk starts at Irlam station. (Where the walk leader will meet the group) 20:15 (approx) - Walk ends at Irlam station. Optional post-walk drinks at a nearby pub. Trains back to Manchester are at 20:53, 21:15 and 21:53. Recommended ticket: Day return to Irlam - £8.80. Cheaper advance tickets may be available. This walk will be led by Katherine and she will meet everyone at Irlam train station. Details: Walk rating: Slight/Leisurely Circular Walk Distance: 5.2 miles Ascent: 15m FAQs: What to wear? Comfy walking clothes are recommended. The weather forecast is looking good so trainers (with good soles) should be ok, or you can wear your hiking boots if you prefer. Can I bring a dog? Dogs are welcome on a short lead, see for details. Can I drive to the walk start? You’re more than welcome to meet us at Irlam station — just make sure to arrive before 18:06am. The walk will start on time, we cannot wait for late arrivals, sorry. We will wait for the train from Manchester. Many of our members are not on Meetup, so the RSVP list will be smaller than the total number of attendees. Typically around 30 people join each walk, so there's plenty of people to chat with. We are committed to maintaining a group where everyone feels respected, secure, and supported. Fake profiles — including individuals misrepresenting themselves, or misusing non-binary or inclusive identities to falsely gain access to women-centred spaces — will result in immediate removal from the group 🚫. If the leadership team notices any red flags 🚩—regardless of how someone identifies—we will take further safeguarding steps before admitting them into the group. It would be irresponsible not to take reasonable precautions, the importance of maintaining safety and trust within our community is our priority 👣💬. Members may be asked to answer additional security or identity-related questions. These steps are not intended to exclude genuine individuals but are necessary to preserve the purpose and integrity of our space. Walk leaders have the right to deny access to individual members on walks they are hosting if they feel that the group dynamic may be negatively impacted or that a participant’s presence could lead to upset or conflict or impact the safety of members and walk leaders. The wellbeing and safety of the group always comes first. If you have a reason for your safety not to show your face in your profile photo, please contact the leadership team so we can discuss an alternative approach that respects your privacy while maintaining group security. \-\-\- 📸 Photography on Walks We love capturing memories on our walks, but we also care deeply about everyone's comfort and safety. ✅ Please always ask permission before taking photos of fellow members. ✅ Do not share photos of members outside of our official Meetup page or Facebook group without their explicit permission. \-\-\- This group is specifically for lesbian and bisexual women, transgender women who align
