AI Augmentation: What Actually Works for Businesses, by Tom Brandwood, Chief Technology Officer for Traverse Automation Abstract: Over the last few years Traverse Automation went from scripting RPA (traditional automations coded in), to training our own models for specific features and comparing the performance and cost to GPT 3 (pre ChatGPT), to riding the wave of AI services, using their APIs as they evolved and implementing Agents where pragmatic. We’ve built several agents to handle aspects of our software development life cycle, and project management most recently - some of them worked brilliantly, some not so much and we’ll be sharing what we’ve learned through the process. At Traverse we believe strongly in human authorship and ownership to avoid the common pitfalls of trusting AI Agents too heavily, we’ll cover our mindset around AI, ways to get the most out of the tools (generally kept broad with some platform specifics) and practical demos of real-world use cases. We’ll finish with an open discussion, we’re more than happy to discuss anyone’s use case and are particularly interested in hearing where AI hasn’t worked for people so we can talk these through and help. Professional Bio: I’m Tom Brandwood, Chief Technology Officer for Traverse Automation. With around a decade of experience focused on automation of complex business processes for Travel companies, and a background in Astrophysics from the University of Liverpool. I began as a software engineer building our cloud orchestration and a low code automation scripting platform from the ground up. This really took off as I helped grow our team of incredible solution designers, problem solvers and developers, together we’ve built many production systems to automate anything our clients need. More recently I’ve been working with several Travel Technology teams, running workshops and consultancy to help other businesses implement AI and Agents where it makes the most sense for them.

Details PyDataMCR April Talks THE TALKS Mind the Gap: From insights to accountability - Shannen Riley (She/Her) A talk around arguably the most boring topic for a lot of professionals in data - governance and quality, but an essential part of everyone's role. Shannen Riley is a Principal Recruitment Consultant (Data & Software) at Impactive IT. She partners with global brands across FCA regulated industries to build Data and Software teams in the UK, US & Europe. She’s been in recruitment for 5 years, having worked in offender risk management previously. Now, she operates as a consultative partner to improve hiring processes, ED&I and data improvements/AI adoption. With an academic background across statistics, data analysis, psychology & criminology, she works to breakdown the stereotype around recruitment by pushing for positive change and accountability in our industry. From Reactive to Resilient: Using AI/ML to Build Self-Healing Deployment Pipelines - Faith Sodipe (He/Him) Modern engineering teams spend too much time reacting, firefighting failed deployments, debugging unstable releases, and managing avoidable incidents. But what if our systems could detect, respond, and recover automatically? In this talk, we’ll explore how AI/ML can transform traditional CI/CD pipelines into self-healing systems that proactively detect anomalies, predict failures, and trigger intelligent remediation. Rather than adding complexity, we’ll focus on practical, production-ready patterns using cloud-native tooling and ML-driven monitoring to improve reliability without over-engineering. Beyond the technical architecture, we’ll examine the human impact: reducing operational burnout, improving release confidence, and enabling teams to build sustainably at scale. Attendees will leave with: A clear mental model of self-healing systems Real-world design pattern

To build a reliable workflow we usually need a mixture of idempotency, restart exactly from failure point, exactly-once processing, observable queues, and other features. Using traditional methods like AWS Lambda or Step Functions can get you only so far, before your system starts to become very complex and costly! DBOS provides all these features through a system design innovation done at MIT which keep complexity at bay and cost to only what you use. AI + Coffee Manchester

Sun
📅 16 Aug 2026
📍 M3 4FP

"AI + Coffee" is a bi-weekly drop-in in Manchester for anyone curious about AI, regardless of role or experience. No speakers. No slides. No agenda. We meet every two weeks, usually on Sunday at 11:00am. \~60 minutes, in person, over coffee. The conversation moves fast. The coffee is optional. The format is deliberately simple because that's the point: A space where a developer, a marketer, and someone who opened ChatGPT for the first time last week can sit in the same room and have a real conversation. No expectation to perform, and no such thing as a silly question. Most AI events are designed to inform. "AI + Coffee" is designed to connect and provide a safe space for everyone to get involved in conversations about AI, it's somewhere to be uncertain in public without it feeling like a professional risk. Come with a question, come with something you've been trying, or come with nothing prepared. Please note: Photos and occasionally short videos are taken at "AI + Coffee" events, for use in future event promotion and on our social channels. If you'd rather not appear in any photos, please send me a DM, and we'll make sure to avoid you in shots.
