We have been asked by Friends of West Bank Park to help tidy up after their summer fair. We will be needed at 4pm to do jobs such as take down gazebos and move tables and chairs. The fair is then taking throughout the day and is a lovely community event, why not get there early and enjoy and ice cream! Meet by James Backhouse Place entrance
The Big Bear Run is a 10k run hosted by Aslam Bryan Wildlife Park and College which aims to raise funds for Project Moon Bear ( The college have asked for volunteers to help make the day a success, so we will be doing various tasks including but not limited to : Providing water at the water stands Directing cars to the designated car parks Directing people to register and around the site Selling raffle tickets Encouraging runners on the route Disappointingly, runners are not required to moon the rescued bears. Nor do the bears hilariously chase the runners round the course. Basically, there will be no bears. I will update this listing with more detailed timings etc. nearer the time. Volunteers will receive a family pass for the wildlife park they can use on the day or at another time. It sounds like it will be a fun day so let's get as many people involved either as volunteers or runners. 😁 Event link (
This year there is going to be a two day festival in Acomb with a wide range of activities including art, music, trapeze workshops, food/ you name it! Many activities are free and aim to bring together the community We have been asked to help by doing a litter pick after each day - one on Sunday morning at 9am to clean up after Saturday, and then again Sunday at 5pm Meet outside the gateway centre on Front Street. Please bring your own picker if you have one or let us know so we can supply
Come along to the clothes swap and help the residents of York reuse and recycle their unwanted clothes. We help sort clothes as they come in, put them out on the rails and usually run the cafe as well. This is a great community task, a really positive atmosphere and lots of steps if you count those kinds of things 😁. I tend to do the community woodland parkrun first and then jog over and people are welcome to join me. The task is listed for 10-11.30 but the swap runs 9-12 so feel free to join us a little bit later or leave early if you can't do the whole 90mins.
Another visit to the bowls club to continue work on their disabled parking. They will just have had a big tree felled so logs to shift as well as weeding and gravelling. Please bring gloves Last few visits we have been rewarded with tea and exceptional cake!
Museum Gardens are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with ticket scanning and donation collections at the OMD concert on 9 July. Volunteering includes free entry to the concert after your volunteering shift 😁 The timings are still to be confirmed but expect to arrive around 4.15pm and be volunteering until about 8. Tasks will involve scanning tickets and giving our wristbands, collecting donations and helping people with directions.
Join us for our monthly visit to Hartrigg Oaks, where we spend an hour with some of the residents doing gentle armchair exercise or taking them out for a spin if the weather is good. Parachute and balloon activities are popular, as well as the giant marble run! The residents appreciate a challenge, so new ideas for games are always welcome. You need to have a valid DBS (background check) certificate to do this task - and will have to bring along the physical certificate if it's your first time visiting Hartrigg Oaks It would be great to build up the number of regulars who can do this task - let us know if you'd like to come but have questions about the DBS or anything else.
Pool Bridge Farm offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy Wild / Open water swimming. All of the 3 stunning swimming lakes, each have their unique feel and character. Over the spring/summer months all three lakes are a tranquil haven for swimmers. I'll bring my paddleboard too if any one wants to have a go. We'll be meeting at 2pm at Pool Bridge in York. Tickets are £9 & you will need to book your own ticket here. It does get busy in summer so book early to avoid disappointment: Some people wear swimming costumes but others wear wetsuits, so wear whatever you're brave enough for! Laura can offer lifts from near Roundhay Park to GoodGym Leeds members who come regularly.
We have been asked to help serve afternoon tea for a Cancer Research Uk event From the organisers- Every year we hold an event called Relay For Life, we fund raise all year round and then get together one weekend to remember why we fund raise and to celebrate those we’ve lost and those who are still fighting this terrible disease. We hold an afternoon tea for our survivors, and this is where we need help. We need help to set up and serve the afternoon tea and then a clear up. We usually do it ourselves but our community is somewhat smaller this year. The timings are 12 till 2 and the date is the 20th June at York RI, New Lane Acomb.
It's festival' in the loosest sense, as more like a range of events but help is needed setting up 4 gazebos, sorting tables and chairs and some general moving, shifting and lifting help in a lovely location. Meet at the main entrance to homestead park for 09:00.
