Yorkshire Walkers (Meet-Up) Group

Tue
📅 30 Jun 2026
📍 YO31 1EU

PLEASE READ!! Hi and Welcome! My name is Martin and I have many years experience of leading walks through the wonderful Yorkshire landscape. I have led a wide variety of walks ranging in distance from 3-12 miles with groups of varying sizes. The Group itself was launched in April 2019 and I run it on a full-time basis. As of Jan. 2025, I have led 600 walks since the Group was launched and all walking routes are recce'd. The aim of this Group is to provide a range of walking options covering weekday and weekend walks including short half-day walks of up to six miles (on weekdays), evening walks during the lighter months and weekend walks of normally 7-10 miles but occasionally longer. Each walk will finish with an optional tea room or a nice pub! The walks take place in a wide variety of locations within Yorkshire’s borders including our two National Parks, the Wolds, Howardian Hills & the East Coast, Nidderdale & the general areas of Harrogate, Leeds & York plus more besides! My walks are led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. WHO IS THIS GROUP SUITABLE FOR ? \ Adults who are reasonably fit and healthy and can walk at a steady (not slow) pace. \ Sorry but dogs are not permitted on any walks. GUESTS: \ Members can bring along a guest providing they have added them to their own RSVP. \ Please ensure you keep your ‘guest RSVP’ up to date, just as you would for your own. \Late withdrawals (48 hours or less before the walk) should be avoided, if at all possible. \Your guest should be made fully aware of the walk details/pace and be comfortable with this.   \If a guest wishes to attend a second walk, they must join the Group before doing so, remembering that their profile should include their name, location (village or nearest town) and a clear, recognisable photo of themselves. WALK FEES/SERVICE LEVELS Walk fee: £3 for the longer walks, reducing to £2 if the walk is less than six miles. Walk fees are payable in cash at the start of the walk. From the monies taken, I cover the Group costs including costs accrued in both leading the walks and doing the recce's as well as ongoing charges for operating the Group's website (which doubled in Sept 2024). You will also note that the variety of walks on offer cover a wider geographical area than is the norm. Annual fee: £10 covers the calendar year, reduced to £5 if joining the Group after 1st July. New members/guests can attend their first walk before the fee becomes payable. The annual fee provides me with a small income from what is my full-time occupation. STANDARD SERVICE: Members have access to the walks programme. PREMIER SERVICE: Once the annual fee has been paid, members have access to any additional events I organise such as pre-booked meals/lunches following walks, weekends away, Christmas events and other socials. CAVEAT I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the Group and don't go off ahead even if you think you know the route. PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of individuals to consider bringing first-aid supplies with them as none will be provided by the Walk Leader. ADDITIONAL SERVICES Members may request copies of the walks I lead, for their own use. I'm happy to provide copies using my own printer for a fee of £2/£3 per copy, dependent on how much printing is involved. This fee reflects the high cost of printer ink. OTHER INFO 1: Pre-conditions for Membership \ The application process requires a clear, recognisable photo of yourself, your name and location (town/village). \ Please ensure your Meet-Up settings are correctly set up, in order that you may receive BOTH Group e-mails & notifications that are sent out by myself (as the 'Organiser'). In order to do this, go into your Meet-Up profile and ensure the appropriate boxes are ticked. Please note, you may find that you are unable to make amendments via a mobile phone. \ Its possible to customise your settings so for instance, you can receive comms. from myself (as Group Organiser/Owner) whilst blocking all other Meet-Up comms. You can also have different settings for individual Meet-Up Groups. 2: Reasons for Cancelling Membership \ Registering for a walk and then not turning up. If you change your mind or are unable to attend a walk, simply change your RSVP. Group policy is that two 'no-shows' results in membership being cancelled although each 'no-show' will be considered on its individual merits.   \ The membership database will be monitored and managed on an ongoing basis to ensure the membership numbers reflect those who are attending walks. New members will generally be given three months to attend their first walk.   \* If your membership is cancelled, you
