You are registered on this group if you are interested in what’s happening at the Tiny Forest Barnet. I will send out emails every so often to remind you about what is happening. If you want to know more or seek clarification please ring me on . Planting completed on the 24th of February with the help of Earthwatch, Barnet Council and most importantly lots of local people. On again on the 26th March 2025 3 more experimental tiny forests were planted. Three different techniques and different plant types used. Thank you to those who have helped support the Tiny Forest creation. Now it’s time to nurture and study how the trees grow. using citizen science uploading data to Earthwatch. This will involve regular activities through the calendar year. Looking to engage the local community with citizen science and other environmental activities. The location is Henlys corner junction of A406 and the Finchley Road Here is a precise what3words address, ///added.pink.opens A Tiny Forest is a dense and rapidly growing native woodland in a small area. It will provide a protected habitat for wildlife, capture carbon, filter the air of harmful particulates and reduce flooding and soil loss. Besides these important local effects, it is symbolic of our need to protect our wider environment and it is hoped it will provide an education and emotional engagement of our community. It’s also something that we will have to physically nurture as a group. Its a great fit for Goodgym! These initiatives are gaining popularity across the UK, with organisations like EarthWatch ( and The Conservation Volunteers ( getting involved. If you have ideas about how to promote this planting to the community please also get in touch. We want schools,

In this session you'll join the friendly volunteers from Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods (FOLAW) for their monthly litterpick. You'll get a great step count as you chat and help tidy up the area in the woods and parkland. Please bring sturdy gloves if you have some, otherwise you can borrow some from the organisers 🧤. Litter picks and bin bags will be provided. It's recommended to wear old clothing as you may end up walking through undergrowth, and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. There may not be a GoodGym Bexley leader at this task, but the FOLAW organisers will make you feel very welcome. Look out for other GoodGymers and perhaps one of you can write short report and add photos of you at the task via the 'Mission Accomplished' email that will land in your inbox later in the day. Drinks from the Chestnuts Kiosk are a lovely treat afterwards. Don't forget to bring a reusable cup if you have one. 📍Meeting point Look out for the volunteers in high-vis jackets at the picnic table on the grassy area behind The Lodge.

For this session we'll be joining the Friends of Oxleas Woods for a gardening session in the surrounding woodlands. These volunteer sessions are open to local people who want to help care for the woods and are usually suitable for beginners and no special experience is needed. Gardening sessions are focused on maintaining areas inside Oxleas Woods, especially the historic gardens and other planted spaces. This week we will be clearing weeds from the terrace/fountain area, as well as weeding the beds. Please bring some gloves if you have any, but they should have spares if not and tools will be provided. The friends of group will be staying for two hours but come for as long as you want. We've listed this as 1.5 hours but it's fine if you can't stay for the full time! The meeting point is Jackwood Garden and the what-three-words location is ///orchestra.assets.labs Here are the directions from the entrance via Crown Woods Lane: 1. Follow the lane until it splits and take the r/h lane towards the Oxleas centre. 2. Go past the Centre and continue along the lane. 3. The Friends of Larkhall Park is made up of local residents who want to improve the park for the benefit of all communities. Due to local government cutbacks, the maintenance of the park has reduced so they manage volunteers and initiatives to keep it safe, clean and biodiverse. They have achieved some great stuff, such as improving the children's playground and creating a seeded meadow grass area. They need some extra helping hands though, and that's where we come in. We'll be doing lots of different tasks around the area, so please bring gloves if you have them. We'll follow this with a short fitness session. We have a back marker so nobody is ever left behind. Hi everyone and welcome to GoodGym Greenwich! We're a friendly and social group who combine running with volunteering in the local community. We meet every Wednesday to get active and do a physical task for charities and community organisations in the area. The Task This week is a new task at Thomas Tallis School. They used to have a very active Parents Teachers Forum who successfully sold second hand uniform which has now disbanded. They haven't had any parents step up to assist so they now have a mass of washed second hand uniform in no order whatsoever! So our task is a simple one this week - I think we're up to it. The Run The run will be about 3km. We recommend you will be comfortable joining a session if you can run for around 15-20 minutes without stopping but everyone is welcome at any pace and you can meet us there if you don't fancy the run. Where & When This week we'll meet at 6.45pm for a 7pm start at Charlton House. The what three words location is "army.rips.spicy". Give Rachel a call on if you can't find us! The session will be about 90 minutes in total so we should be all wrapped up by 8.30pm. If you want to meet at the task the address is Thomas Tallis School, Kidbrooke Park Rd, London SE3 9PX. Please let me know in the comments if you want to meet us there. See you then!
