Glasgow & Edinburgh Hidden Walks Meetup Group

Sat
📅 13 Jun 2026
📍 G4 9BS

I am the author of several walking books covering Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and New York. These include Edinburgh's Hidden Walks, Glasgow's Hidden Walks and Secret Glasgow. I originally started the group so people could come with me as I trialled new walks for the Glasgow book. After that book was published, I decided to keep the group as it is great fun to explore new routes with people outside of publishing deadlines. If you are new to the cities or have lived here a while but fancy exploring an area less familiar to you, please come along. Most of the walks are new ones, so I never know how long they will take when doing them with a group for the first time. However, if you don't mind a few wrong turns and random moments, this is the group for you! Cheers, Stephen Millar stephenmillarwalks.com

Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group – Hillwalking

Sun
📅 26 Jul 2026
📍 G4 9BS

Hi there! Welcome to the group :-) This group is part of Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - for walking/hillwalking events. The other part of the group is for climbing events and if you're interested in that, please join We're a friendly group that was founded in 2008 to be run by the members for the members. We encourage members to "own the group" and help keep the page active by hosting events, but there is definitely no requirement to do so. We organise a wide range of walks year round including single Munros, multiple Munros, scrambling over ridges, weekends away and a selection of low level longer walks, pub walks and summer evening walks.. These shouldn't be considered "led walks" with a professional guide. Think of it more as going walking with a group of friends (and while you may not be friends with everyone at the start of the walk, you will be by the end of it!). However, everyone has to take responsibility for themselves as well as for each other, and everyone has a role to play (be it offering lifts to the start, helping with the navigation on the walk or bringing the jaffa cakes!) The organiser of a walk or event is the point of contact for the walk. Organisers do not lead walks and are not responsible for others or instructing them. Organisers are volunteers who are sharing their own experience with others, so those of lesser experience should be aware of this. The group is completely free to join, but we may occasionally ask for a voluntary £3 donation to help cover the cost of hosting the group on Meetup.com. If you have some ideas for walks and activities or perhaps once you have been on a few events, would like to get involved in organising one, please send us a message via Mountain Goat's Meetup profile. Look forward to seeing you on a meetup soon, Mountain Goat

Please take a moment to read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, the short cut is on the left side of this page PLEASE READ RSVP ETIQUETTE AND CLUB GUIDELINES on the "Pages" tab above. ( Check us out here: - and here to see what we get up to Organisers Organisers are volunteers who give up their own time to act as a contact point. Organisers do not accept responsibility for others or for instructing them. These are NOT guided walks run by qualified instructors.  Organiser, he or she is only helping by sharing his or her experience, and may not be qualified or regarded as a 'technical expert' in any way. Any less-experienced members of the club accompanying this more-experienced member must be aware that they take any advice on this basis, and that the onus of responsibility for deciding whether or not to rely on any such advice lies with the less-experienced member. Venues Organisers will provide a meeting place, a time, and a description of the route based on local knowledge and experience. Often a reference is made to “walk highlands” or other web sites where more detailed descriptions are available. Please pay particular attention to the "Grade" of walk, C (least strenuous) to A (most difficult). DonationsAs of late 2015, it is no longer a pre-requisite that members be requested to pay for walks. All donations made to the club shall be voluntary and should be handed to any of the organisers.
