Life Drawing and Art Classes In Dulwich, South London The Dulwich Art Group and School is a small independent art school with a focus on observational drawing and painting. We have regular drop-in life drawing sessions run by practising artists where you can draw from a nude model and get feedback on your work if you want it. We also have a portrait group with a new model every couple of weeks We have long and short pose groups. In a long pose group we have one pose for the whole session. You'll find people drawing and painting in a variety of media; charcoal, pencil, pastel, watercolour, acrylic and oil are all well represented. We usually hold a pose for two weeks which allows time to produce something finished. Short pose groups are ideal for learning to grasp the essence of what we are looking at and for describing it quickly and with economy. Poses will vary in length from one minute up to twenty or more. If you're trying to loosen up or to develop your own visual language repeatedly drawing the figure with a time constraint is very helpful. If you're new to life drawing we'd always recommend this format. We also love supporting artists on their journey and run courses for beginners in drawing and painting and also for those who are seeking to move on with their art. You'll find details of our tutored groups on our website, they are delivered by professional artists whose work we admire and who have a love of sharing their knowledge and a gift for communicating it. We have a life model in a single pose for three hours. Usually the same pose is repeated the following week so that you can give six hours to your work, remember to book the same position for both weeks. The session is not formally tutored although all of our sessions are run by artists and advice is always available, just ask – otherwise you will be left to get on by yourself. Our studio is purpose built and well equipped with easels, drawing boards, clips and so on. We sell materials at reasonable prices so if you forget anything we should be able to help you out. We have professional lighting for the models and and full spectrum lights for the studio to give you a good experience. We break for 5 minutes for the model every 25 minutes and then for twenty minutes at 11.30am to have a cup of coffee and a biscuit (small charge). Our studio has a light and friendly atmosphere. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced painter, come and paint with us! We have a wonderful community of artists who join us each week. It is also possible to attend this session on Zoom, have a look here if you are not familiar with Zoom and to understand our process. Cost: £15 – £25 for a single three hour session.
