About us: Since Silverfit's founding in 2013 by Eddie Brocklesby who is now in her 80s. She was the UK’s oldest female Ironman triathlete until 2022. We have grown to over 2,000 members at 17 venues across 9 boroughs reaching a large number of people who weren't previously active. Each venue offers a choice of activities from Nordic Walking, to Pilates, Yoga, Walking Football, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Badminton, gym/ fitness classes, indoor rowing, Bollywood dance, which means that everyone should be able to find an activity to enjoy, regardless of ability or experience. By promoting happier, healthier ageing through affordable physical activity and at the same time combating social isolation we aim to improve older people's quality of life and also to save the NHS and social care providers money. Members tell us their increased fitness means they attend GP’s surgeries less, or are on reduced medication. Our remarkably high retention reflects that the social element is as highly valued, if not more so, than the physical activity. Taisoken (meaning ‘exercise sword’) is a new form of ‘warrior fitness’ - fitness training based on the traditional Japanese sword movements. It has been formulated to help sculpt and work your whole body, strengthening your core and empowering the mind. Taisoken Sword fitness training is Cardiovascular and is suited to all levels of fitness. Taisoken Sword Fitness has been developed and is led by Jeff Humm, who has been studying studying the use of the Japanese sword for over 35 years together with other traditional martial arts. He holds a Masters degree in Traditional Japanese Martial Arts and a 7th Dan in Japanese fencing (Kendo). In addition to being an International & National teacher for over 20 years in some of these Arts, recently he has used his considerable knowledge to develop a programme of physical training forms that would bring elements of classical sword training to a wider fitness aware public who are looking for more than just a gym workout. Taisoken classes take place on most Sunday mornings and some Friday evenings from 2016 they are for ladies only.

Taisoken Sword Fitness classes are formulated to sculpt your whole body, build lean muscle and focus the mind. Based on traditional Japanese sword movements (‘Taisoken’ literally means ‘exercise sword’ in Japanese) the class blends cardio and light weight resistance training to burn fat and build long lean muscles. We make use of traditional Japanese training swords (called ‘Bokken’) to tone our arms and strengthen our cores. No prior training or martial arts experience is required, the class is completely non-contact and suited to all levels of fitness.
